Can one possibly be too smart for Math (atleast calculus?). If not, why do i have pic related IQ, but sometimes laughably retarded calculations :(

>> No.9999657

>>9999634
The usual answer is that you are not as smart as you think you are but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. You can be 'too smart' for calculations in the sense that if you think you are smart, you could see doing trivial computations as beneath you and that is when you start skipping multiple steps simultaneously. If this causes you to make mistakes then all you can do is accept that calculations are not beneath you and start building a work ethic.

You can either stop skipping steps entirely and do everything like a computer, or learn some heuristics to check your calculations.

This.
IQ above 120 means little.
Whether you're eager/willing to think means more than another 20IQ above 120.

Lmao you can't be too smart for anything, if you're asking that question then you're dumber than you think you are. If you're making retard calculation errors then you need to practice those types of calculations and form more reliable methods.

Just pay attention and you won't make mistakes, focus, retard.

>> No.10000100

Dumb people definitely have an advantage in completing tedious, repetitive tasks like mathematical calculations because their minds have less going on. They're much less likely to be distracted by more creative, interesting thoughts during the process because they don't have creative or interesting thoughts. The hardest part about Math is that it is extraordinarily boring while simultaneously requiring significant focus and attention.

I can vouch for the second approach. I have super bad ADHD and wasn't able to be successful with math - at all - until I started taking adderall. I never developed the work ethic required to do everything one damn step at a time, but I did figure out how to chunk as many steps together as possible, what the implications of the chunking are, etc. I get a good vision of what I'm working towards and how I'll get there, and I develop ways to check the parts most likely to be subject to error along the way. I think another way to put this is that instead of getting better at doing any one computation, I reduced the number of them that I need to do.

Nah, people with awareness aren't going to work hard at anything because it's stupid. There's a tiny number of fake "jobs" out there like athlete and actor that lucky scum get to have where "working" hard is actually fun and pays off in a significant way. For everyone else it's basically like you burn out your youth with "work ethic" for the benefit of some greedy narcissistic psychopath so the twilight years of your life where you're better off dead anyway can be spent in comfort -- assuming you don't go bankrupt from a medical disaster or misfortune.

Good work ethic is for people whose tiny brains don't realize any of that.

Your calculations have to do with how well-practiced you are with arithmetic, not with how smart you are. Which calculations you choose to make is the thing comes from your IQ being high or not. Getting the right answer comes from being well-practiced with arithmetic (or meticulous)

Yeah because 'smart' people don't realise that you can make your own companies, and that you can actually accomplish something that you enjoy with work ethic and be a happier person at the end of the day.
I emphasised smart because you're not smart. You have no idea how the world works so you throw out your default heavily pessimistic worldview because that makes you seem like you know what's going on and you're experienced. To anyone other than a 15 year old emo girl you just look dumb, pessimistic, inexperienced and unwilling to learn or improve with really underdeveloped philosophies.

I get an IQ of 143 when I do this test but I have done very little with it. I have accomplishments in art (music, film making and painting) but I could only count my film making as an actual acknowledged accomplishment by my peers. I never studied in school or university but somehow managed to pass. I'm a lazy cunt who is "too smart" to motivate myself to do anything useful. People like me ought to be forced to contribute in more useful ways to society.

You do realise IQ is just a number, a number that happens to positively correlate with desirable life outcomes?
You don't need an IQ score to know that you are smart, you can easily figure it out once you reach a certain age.

Well, first of all you have to be honest with yourself. Did you take a test that was then analyzed thoroughly, or did you take an online one, that just compares you with other test takers?

Second of all, you have to remember that while 138 is high among the world's population, it is not even mensa level, depening on which IQ test you took. Even amongst mensians there is such a huge difference.

I would say, you shouldn't worry about being too smart for something, unless you're actually 160ish. If you're "just" 138, you're much more likely to just be disorganized or not focusing properly.

Remember this, you're quite intelligent, but you're not even near the actual freaks of nature. Stop deluding yourself to think you are one.

However.

It takes discipline not just smarts

HOWEVER

I suspect that discipline is also largely and intrinsic/90% genetically determined.

So you can no just study or not procrastinate, because it's also genetic.

I am kinda surprised why this is not discussed more
