At first I was going to disagree with you but the more I think about it the more I realize your logic is not only right but highlights a very critical point. Most males by adulthood realize they will only be average at best. They also realize that this means their potential mate selection becomes limited socially, however in a family situation advancing in social mobility favors females since their mate selection reaches a wider base to include higher classes.

To a socially successful brother their sister's mate selection isn't as nearly as important since authority usaully favors male lineage anyway. However to a non-successful brother (let alone father) young female kin are a last ditch effort or back up plan to save face.
