I'm having trouble understanding the ego in Freud's psychoanalytic theory. If the id is the instinctual needs and desires present at birth, then is ego the voice of reason that controls the id?

It goes id - uncontrollable instincts in your subconscious. Ego - your self-aware ideas that you consciously come up with. Superego - basically your conscience that controls your ego.

It's literally the most bullshit theory you will ever learn.

Unfortunately, it's part of my college course. But thanks for the advice.

Ego is supposed to be your actual actions, behavior etc. It's influenced and often choosing between Id (base instincts and emotions) and super ego (rational thought).

Why /x/? Is the human mind supernatural to you?

Which one do you recommend? I thought it was science since it's part of psychology.

probably /his/ since Freud is mostly of interest in humanities and not modern psychology (which is only a science by the skin of its teeth)
