Is there anyone left who thinks that the LOP-G moon space station is anything other than an expensive death trap? Every month this thing gets more expensive and more complex. And what happens if you're in this thing when a non-trivial solar flare erupts? You're fucking dead, that's what.

So it's a "hub" for travel to points beyond the moon. What's the point? Why stop at this shitty little station? There aren't any supplies there and you'll just spend more delta-v slowing down.

It's actually a much simpler and cheaper design than the ISS, being much smaller (75 tons vs 450 tons) and with many of it's components being either renovated modules that were originally designed for the ISS; or purely commercial elements like the Power and Propulsion Element, which is basically an electric propelled satellite on steroids. All in all I think the LOP-G will be assembled in a reasonable time if the modules are launched with commercial rockets, and that the true problem lies with actually getting the astronauts to the gateway.

This seems to be an issue -- I assume people involved who have spent more time thinking about it than I have understand this and have an answer. Anybody know what it is?

Yes, the answer is "tens of billions of dollars of constituent spending in Florida and the Gulf Coast"

Its either that or no human space flight at all. Take your pick.

There's an entire moon, you could probably make good use of something down there.

it serves no purpose and is a total waste of money

Supporting the aerospace industry and nasa in these ages of tight budgets is something that "serves no purpose"?

I used to be for the Gateway station, but now it's getting out of hand and at this point I'd rather do Apollo-style missions where you just go straight to the Moon's surface instead of a space station.

Unless you have a real, real reason to return to the moon, is a waste money that should be invested on other fields or projects.

So why the USA or the rest of the world would need a moon base? To learn moon language?

NASA budget is as high as ever, and certainly large enough for a moonbase

they literally do not deserve more money until they learn to use it in an efficient manner

we aint never going to colonize space if a rocket launch costs $ billion
