Every organism since the first single-celled creature has taken in "food" (some sort of thing that it can use) and expelled "waste" (stuff it couldn't use).

We poop because everything we eat contains some parts that are useless to us or that our body cannot process. Also, poop contains a lot of body material that has died, such a red blood cells and the like. The benefit is that it gets rid of useless stuff to make us run efficiently.
