any "extra" courses you take should be grad level. minors and double majors are for rich kids who have the extra cash and time to blow. plus, your undergrad is already shallow and broad enough. going even broader isn't doing you any favors.

take a 500 series CFD or FEA class instead, you'll learn more and actually get something marketable out of it.

Look at pic related instead of going by anecdotes. It's only gotten worse as there is more and more "outreach" programs to cram as many people into STEM as possible. I got hired because I had a referral, but the job sucks so much dick that every single day I'm contemplating just quitting and doing my absolute best to change careers. It's making life unbearable.

Why does it suck so much? They had me start sooner than I was ready, straight out of, or still in, school. From day one they just throw shit at me to do with zero training. I can just figure things out as I go along, right? Wrong. Everything has deadlines, and all my time has to be accounted for in timesheets that charge respective projects that I worked on. If I try to "train" myself without charging projects I get scolded. If I try to learn while charging the projects, I kill the project's budget and then I still get scolded while the project work has to be done with no funds to charge for it.

If I knew things would suck this much I would have just gone into trades and most likely had my own company now. Working my own hours and getting paid more than I am now.

Did they go to ok-decent schools? Everyone says to stay far away from law school as it’s hard to secure a job unless you attend the top schools. It’s also commonly said J.D. folks work many more hours than their engineering counterparts and hate life. I like the idea of it because I get a kick out of reading legal writing, autistically filing forms, and communicating with people.

What electives should I take? I go to CU and am a mechanical engineer, and this is more or less what's offered:
>Sustainable Energy: Seems to be all about evaluating how energy is used in the economy and looking at different, sustainable forms of energy
>Soft Machines: All about soft machines, robotics, and the material science behind them.
>Combustion
>Failure of Engineering Materials
>Nanomaterials Class
>Feedback Control: Introduction to fundamental principles and techniques for analysis and synthesis of feedback control systems in the time and frequency domains.
>Introduction to Microfluids

Currently I enrolled in sustainable energy, soft machines, and some advanced calculus course, but I was thinking of dropping the sustainable energy class for combustion, and then tacking on that feedback control class in place of the calc. But it's hard for me to really figure out since I'm not quite sure what my passion is. I technically graduate at the end of this semester, but these electives all kinda feel "meh" to me, since the other semester has a robotics class and some other neat stuff.
