thats an interesting question, but i imagine it would work the other way round. In the case of a split brain, one hemisphere partially takes the functions of the other. It's not sure how it would work the other way round. Would it boost the mental capcity or would it get confused?

also there evolution has it's own beauty, part of which is symmetry. i'd rather not interfere and let it do it's job.

It is already integrated. When you separate them, the plasticity of the brain allows them to take over the missing counter parts. They both don't do that when joined because it is more efficient to compartmentalize things.
