9915358 No.9915358 [Reply] [Original]

I have a mother and a father so the number of parents I have is two. My parents also both have a mother and a father so the number of grandparents that I have is four. My grandparents also all had two parents so the number of my grand-grandparents that existed during a certain time period was 8. If we go on with this process, 40 generations ago the amount of my ancestors was 2^40, which is impossible. What exactly is the issue here?

Second or third cousins under regular circumstances. The official Icelandic cousinshagging-prevention app (is.ses.apps.islendingaapp) uses second cousins

you assume that it just diverges exponentially, but consider that all life has 1 common ancestor, so clearly some of your ancestors will have common ancestors as well, which I guess you could call "inbreeding", tho it may be very distant inbreeding

Reproduction with your second cousin is more likely to create retarded or deformed babies than with your first cousin, imo try to avoid anyone you know you're loosely related to full stop, you'll probably end up with a 4th or 5th cousin anyway

I've heard about this guy. My understanding is that he's some sort of really fucked up immortal minor character that appears in the background of a bunch of otherwise wholesome visual novels that take place in the same universe. Is that right?

If you do it two or more generations in a row it starts to go bad. Even one is risky, but not the worst thing you can do.

>muh incest inbreeding meme

Incorrect.

Normies like to assume, out of cognitive dissonance, that everyone have one mother and one father in the ideal nuclear family scenario.

But really it was just a few chads procreating with multiple women at a time like pic related.

Someone smart enough here on /sci/ should do the math of the impact of 1 man procreating with 17 women over 40 generations. I'm betting top dollar the math checks out at matches the actual measured population.

I know you hate women and are really in need of (You)s, but keep your shit together.

scenario Chad:
>1 man procreating with 17 women
scenario Beta:
>17 men procreating with 17 women

now the magic question: in which of these scenarios does the next generation have a bigger gene pool (and therefore less inbreeding)?

This is a great question. I love questions like this.
You are asking how many ancestors you have and you are computing it by raising 2 to the generational power and you are getting a huge number and you are wondering if you computed it right?

The wrong problem:
#. >>9915464 Population bottleneck is not an issue. Each person still has two parents. The induction would still hold.
#. >>9920157 Multiple wives situation is not an issue for the micro view. The only thing that matters is A PERSON has a father and a mother, not ALL PEOPLE don’t have unique parents. That person still only has one father regardless of how many children or wives that father has. The induction still holds
#. Each person alive today has the same number of ancestors, but all of us don't have unique ancestors so we are not multiplying that 2^40 by each person alive. Just so we are clear. We are just worried about that exponent.

It is also wrong to look at the exponent themselves. This way madness lies.
#. In a geometric expansion the level matters. The past doubles a large number; the present doubles a small number. So for the total, which generation is eliminated by cross-mating matters.
HOWEVER:
#. There is cross generational mating (your grandma is also your mom) and cross-cross generational mating (your great grandma is you mom [less likely]) This matters but only partially reduces a generation in the exponent. The parent still has two parents, etc….
#. There is intergenerational mating (your mom is your aunt) and inter-intergenerational (your second cousin is your mom). This doesn’t matter at all.
To get a full generational reduction, both parents would have to be your grandparents, which is impossible.
SO The Problem is NOT one of INBREEDING.
