Why has this terribly inefficient device been allowed to plague our oceans for nearly 150 years? Why are physicists and engineers so useless?

What alternative is there?
Did the Australians revolutionize the propeller just like they revolutionized mathematics?

Ever heard of a jet-ski?

I have no idea if it is more efficient, but there have been jet-boats since at least the 70s.

Some of my engineering professors have worked on alternatives that are better and faster, sold some to the US military (I'm from Australia btw).

The boat takes in water from the front and shoots the water at high speed behind it just above water level, gives very good handling and speed, although it's harder to steer them at lower speeds. Pic related

it took me scrolling past that image 5 times to realize what it is

At first I thought it was a security camera.

It's also shit and immensely power-inefficient

But do the turbines not use propellers too? Also: are they more efficient or just faster?

Same. Why the fuck would there be security cameras in the ocean? Dolphins are not going to assault ships, we are not ready yet.

There are such things as in-board motors

>> No.9917609

>>9917564
They're supposedly much more efficient, and I'm not sure how they eject the water behind them, possibly turbines with propellors inside. INCAT is a bit careful with how much info they give people like me lmao. All I can say is, if it uses propellors, they aren't external props like in the OP's

Inboard motors and outboard motors both drive a prop, though.

Blue water boats have greater concerns or higher priorities than efficiency. Such as salt water corrosion and constant ship maintenance/upkeep. Props are easy to repair/replace.
Internalized water jet propulsion systems are harder to maintain, and less people know how. Which means if you're stranded at a port and can't find or get a mechanic that specialized in jet propulsion to fix your shit, then you're stuck there forever.
