Hey dude I'm right there with you, but it's best when someone says something so retarded to ignore them, because there's a significant nonzero chance that they're baiting. Just don't give retards (you)s, bro.

On topic of the thread, I've had a few good conversations on /lit/, and while this may net me some flak, there are also quite a few interesting figures on /a/, but it's more of a mixed bag like all of the other hobbyist boards.

>> No.9902560

This board is full of idiots, though.

The only thing that happens here is people try to talk about how their IQ is higher than others because they have nothing else they are proud of with their lives so they look for any indication that they're somehow superior.

This (tied with /his/) - reading books is sure to hone your Verbal IQ. It is one of the few aspects of general intelligence that doesn't hold muchg controversy that you can significantly improve it. After that maybe /g/, because CS enthusiasts (not bandwagoning normans looking to wage-slave), are gunna be rather smart. /po/, and /ic/ after /g/, because both require one to train/be proficient in visuo-spatial intelligence, visual working memory, and several other proficiencies that would aid them in non-verbal tasks. Actually, not so sure about /ic/ anymore, but years back it was definetely the case.

/sci/ _used_ to have the smartest posters, but now it's been overrun by /pol/tards, so while we still probably have the smartest posters here, we also have a shitload of the dumbest posters, giving us an average-IQ of somewhere around the same as /v/.

/x/ has got to be the absolute dumbest board, unless you’re counting /s4s/ which is only the dumbest because they actively try to be. Go take a look at /pol/. Now go take a look at /x/. /x/ is several orders of magnitude more retarded.

Seeing /lit/ trying to discuss quantum mechanics is fucking embarrassing, but at least the board is somewhat on topic and they occasionally discuss material above a high school level. Granted a lot of what they say concerning pretty much anything is garbage, you do still find a higher number of good posts, compared to /sci/ at least. /mg/ sometimes has some decent posts, but not too often anymore. I'd say /lit/ over all is smarter than /sci/, but the best of /sci/ are better than the best of /lit/. If we just consider the best of the best, /sci/ may actually come out on top or near the top of all the boards, but if we consider averages then there's no way /sci/ even makes it to the top 10. I frequent /lit/ and /sci/. Sure there are quite a few smart people on this board but /lit/ has us beat by a long shot.
Ignoring shitposts, /lit/ has far superior and informed discussion. There are more literate people there, if we are talking about smart.
I probably think this because I am in life sciences and this board is complete ass for that, especially for ecology, evolution, systematics, ect.
I only go for /lit/ for philsophy discussion, mainly metaphysics. Sure there alot of people pretending like they read on /lit/ but the amount of people misusing systems vocab and name-dropping fields of study on /sci/ is astonishing. And so many people on here are full of themselves, this is dunning-kruger the board. All the narcissists trying to make themselves feel better by scoring pedantic BTFOpoints here ruin /sci/, nobody knows what the hell they are talking about in the sciences. /lit/ seems more aware of their ignorance and has more geniune conversation and productive dialogue.
I never see anyone productively talk about methodology or debate scientific theories (especially ones that I am interested in), it's all people shitting on things they know nothing about or poorly communicating the things they do actually no about.
The shitposting problem is worse(and less fun) here.

/pol/ is full of very emotional people. And emotional people don't think rationally all the time. They come up with emotionally gratifying solutions which are not necessarily the best solutions. They are full of people who feel alienated and attacked by society. So they find comfort radical ideologies. It's nothing new. I've posted there a few times to try and understand them better, but meaningful discussion is impossible because of there are so many layers of irony to everything. Everything is just a meme. Most of the people there don't have a very in depth understanding of their own ideologies. They don't need to, as long as their ideology presents them with a solution that validates them emotionally. They don't delve much deeper than hitler memes and some infographics that they skimmed over. You can try and get them to explain things about how they will achieve their goals or what their end goal really is, but most of them don't know themselves. I don't mean to say far-right and/or racist = retard. Smart people are capable of being racist and/or far right. But I /pol/ is not full of the intelectual heavyweights of the far right. It's full of average to below average disenfranchised people. Often working class.

I mean, you don't really need a degree in order to known that at least half the people on /lit/ don't know what they're talking about. Maybe I'm just harsher on /sci/, but in my defense /sci/ is usually pretty low quality barring maybe 2 threads one any given day.

/sci/ doesn't have the smartest posters. This is evident to anybody that's not still in college working towards a STEM degree. Anybody with a job can tell how dumb most /sci/ posters are. It's like going on /biz/ and seeing people fall for the dumbest shit. /sci/ fell for the marketing hype around "pushing humanity to the limits and expanding its understanding of the universe." Anyone who falls for that shit isn't expanding anything, not even their dick inside a vagina. It's a marketing strategy to get people to do more work for less. "I can take a pay cut if it's for a greater cause!"

IQ matters in the real world, but it's unlikely anyone one /sci/ is above 115. With high IQ comes other correlations like taller height, better looks and social skills. All of which I doubt anyone on /sci/ has. Unironically, it would seem /fit/ is the smartest board. Not only are they more likely to take care of their bodies, increasing their ceiling for intellectual capacity, but they also are taller, better looking, and many have increased their social skills by being put into such situations by their newly sculpted bodies.

Being able to repeat verbatim shit you read is not smart, it's shit Einstein, Newton, and Tesla called normie-tier when they were alive. The main thing all these brainmores had in common was that they were able to summon original thought and go against the grain of the established practices. Ironically, the vast swath of brainlet anti-vaxxers and flat-earthers are more "smart" than /sci/ posters, using this metric.

My gut tells me that the average for lit is higher but the range is smaller because it's more likely to attract pseuds obsessed with proving how novel their understanding of Kant's Critique of pure reason or Das Kapital is, but the fact that you're discussing such high level text IMO demands a pretty high average.
