How do you get children into physics and math?

>> No.9887320

Get them while they're young
If you're not teaching math by age 5 it's too late

>> No.9887344

An allowance.

Show application and relevancy of STEM.

pretend it's evil and let them rebel by learning it

Lei to them and tell them if they have a STEM degree they will always be able to find a job, and that STEM people make lots more money than non STEM people (who also always struggle to even get jobs). Thats what the adults used to get me into it.

Science fiction.

It's the only way to show them science is cool.

they will get to it themselves, never force this shit

play with math and science... make cool simple experiments be that cool mad scientist professor

The interesting parts. Show them Vsauce and Vihart, those youtube channels got me interested in math and science.

They are children. You make them. They don't have a choice not to.

>> No.9887900

You don't, we should discurage the public as much as possible from stem fields

Pretend in front of them that it's cool to do science and math

>> No.9888224

>>9887689
yeah, this works.

alternatively, be infectiously enthusiastic about science yourself. any sort of excitement spreads real quick with kids

Most kids are naturally curious anyway so I think the first thing is to cultivate it. Always try to answer their questions, tell them when you don't know the answer and look it up. Do not buy them a smartphone.
Incorporate it in your playing at a young age: give them riddles, maybe show them some experiments or some cool things you can do with a computer.

Unironically this, just don't force math on them. A lot my friends (and myself) were pushed hard towards math/sciences at school-age by our parents (one was even homeschooled with very excessive attention to math/sciences) and completely lost interest as a result. Come university time we applied in fields completely outside of the exact sciences. Looking back, I regret it.

>they will get to it themselves, never force this shit

This lol

The best way to help you kids is to not fuck up their natural creativity and curiosity.

>The young Feynman was heavily influenced by his father, who encouraged him to ask questions to challenge orthodox thinking, and who was always ready to teach Feynman something new.

>Galileo became an accomplished lutenist himself and would have learned early from his father a scepticism for established authority

>His father intended for him to pursue electrical engineering, but Einstein clashed with authorities and resented the school's regimen and teaching method. He later wrote that the spirit of learning and creative thought was lost in strict rote learning

tl;dr teach your kids to be rebellious edgelords
