Jesus christ why is math so fucking boring.

I want to study computer science and I really want to, but I'm fucking struggling with trigonometry because I start to sleep like five minutes in the khan academy videos.

It's like why should I give a fuck about this.

And then every math faggot needs to come up with math is fun, math is usefull, math is cool, simply because they don't want to accept that math is so fucking boring.

It must suck having to find excuses for being a brainlet.

Also, you can't even judge math before you even take your first class on calculus. That's when you start to get a taste for what math is and what it's like. From arithmetic to algebra you are simply learning tools for calculus, and calculus is just a tool for getting to what some people would consider "real" math (real as in not baby math).

This is clear bait made to mock CS major, who actually do act like this most of the time. That being said, serious CS students are generally the ones to take more math classes or to double major.

If you’re not meming, then I can tell you that you picked the wrong field buddy. If you want to do research, then that’s mostly math. If you want to write important code, aside from organization like database management, most of your time will be planning and designing. A good amount of it will require you to prove a result/derivation , prove correctness, runtime, etc. In addition, there’s a chance that you will be working with traditional engineering teams solving problems as well, so having a working knowledge of mechanics, basic chemistry, etc. is invaluable if you like stem.

Most of everything else is code monkey work

My trick to not becoming bored with videos on Khan Academy is to
>Set to 1.25 speed (He talks too slow)
>Take notes
>Go through the mini-quizzes, quizzes, and tests until you get at least 90%

If you just watch the videos and read the material without stopping to take notes, double check work, or work through problems you will become very bored and very fast and the feeling of accomplishment from doing well or making a mistake but realizing what you did wrong will keep you going.

Read computational physics books. Math and reasoning is also good for this. Look up Carmack’s work and fast inverse square root algo. There are good books on engine use. Game design is a meme degree, but there are good design books out there that talk about incentive systems. Learn how to draw, compose music (a big part of a good experience), etc. Games are hard to make because a lot of fields have to come together to make a good one

Try learning number theory and statistics. If you dont like those, you'll hate a real software engineering job.

Difficulty usually implies intrigue or novelty or at least a feeling of accomplishment. In math, difficulty implies only boredom, tedium, and memorization. Memorization isn't always bad -- in biology, for instance, the facts you're memorizing can be fascinating. In math, the material you're memorizing is so uninteresting that you'd have to be an equally uninteresting person to do it willingly.

its a quote from Ronnie Coleman that i modified to make a point. if you don't understand that the act of studying math increases your analytical and quantitative reasoning abilities, then you are hopeless.

do you think anyone is ever going to run into a situation where they need to put a bunch of weight on their back and squat it? no, probably not. does lifting in general give you a stronger body and make you more physically capable? yes, it does. its the same thing with math and any kind of study.
