>fell for the two years of community college meme

This shit only has value if you're in some bullshit humanities major, so you can save money to offset the cost of having literally no marketable knowledge.

As a CS major, I came out of community college having only taken in intro to C course (the only class offered that can transfer for anything). My university has three prerequisites for Algo+DS 2 (Discrete, Algo+DS 1, and object oriented programming) as well as an entrance exam.

Basically, I have to take the set of the hardest weedout classes at my school in a single semester as incoming junior to catch up to freshmen and sophomores. Additionally, all these students will have the opportunity to try for internships in their second summer, while my only option is get one in my final summer.

This is if I'm lucky however, because I will probably have to send out applications in fall while I'm taking all the prereqs, so its unlikely any places will consider my application given I'll have no core classes.

To add to that, making connections and relationships with faculty is strained because of having to take the hardest classes all at once and having so much less time than everyone else.

tl;dr Going to community college for 2 years than transferring is reddit tier garbage and basically puts you irreversibly behind all your peers. Don't do it.

Of course they are. You're only supposed to do the common core STEM classes at CC:
>Calculus I&II
>Vector Calculus
>Linear/Matrix Algebra
>Ordinary Differential Equations
>(Calculus based) Physics I&II
>General Chem I&II
>English 101&102
>Macro/Micro Economics
>w/e History course for diversity elective
>+2~6 gen ed crap (ie public speaking) that you need for the AS degree that won't transfer

Then you can save 1 year off in university and graduate in 3 more years. CC is called the 13th and 14th grades for a reason.

who the fuck are you comparing yourself to? do you really think an extra year in industry or academia makes or breaks people? dude, 4 extra years wouldn't even make the slightest difference. whats more important is not being in large amounts of student debt and keeping a good GPA. you absolutely do not have to take all those classes at once, you just think you do because you are trying to adhere to some arbitrary time table. how about you slow the fuck down and stop treating classes as boxes you need to check and start treating them as opportunities to learn.

I plan on going to De Anza next year for this proppouse, also aiming for a CS major. Is OP right? or he just made wrong desicion. I read good things about De Anza regarding transfers.

The reason why I am going this path is because I finished highschool with mediocre grades and after finishing I was a NEET for a long time. I see CC as a second chance for getting into a good uni. I already wasted too much time.

Sorry I transferred for math not CS. CS is insanely difficult at UCLA, it's the projects that are super time consuming. It's actually harder to transfer to UCLA for CS than Berkeley (5% acceptance rate vs 7% acceptance rate). I wish you luck, Anon

It's a good shot, look up transfer statistics for schools like UCLA, Cal, etc. Some major are as high 45%. CS is one of the harder ones to transfer in as. I love my CC. Great professors, small classes, and when you get into the STEM area most of the people are pretty motivated. I'll probably transfer to UIC, although I'm thinking about UIUC which I might be able to get into, despite how competitive it is. Although that would mean taking an extra semester at CC...

Anyway, if you're reading this thread and thinking about CC, make sure you visit your options and research how the courses they have transfer to your desired institutions. Do this before you start.. I live near a wealthy suburban area so we have a very well-funded, well respected school.

I'm a math/physishit at UCLA currently, but my roommates have made it abundantly clear that CS is ungodly difficult here.

I'm personally less than thrilled about the heavy emphasis on phenomenology, experimentalists, and general disdain for actual rigorous mathematical models in physics, but I'm just a first year so maybe it gets better in the more advanced classes. The math requirements for the major are pretty pathetic, though.
