Smallpox a killed of most of the Amerindians while malaria and other diseases Europeans couldn't really settle permanently in Africa. Also, some of the most virulent diseases seem to come from Africa,e.g. Ebola. Are their genes hardier than other races?

No, people just tend to be more resistant to stuff they are constantly exposed to.
It's like Indians swimming in shit and influenza. Practically everyone who visits India gets Delhi belly, and we spread influenza to new populations that couldn't handlevit because they never had it before.

Some yes; but a lot from Asia, including (most likely) the infamous
"Spanish flu" of 1918 that killed perhaps 5% of the world population.

sickle cell heterozygotes are resistant to Malaria. Because these people survive, there are more people carrying the allele, so you get more resistance here than in other populations. But sickle cell isn't a good thing. I wouldn't think in terms of "hardier" genes necessarily.

Ebola got lucky popping up in an area with a long civil war just recently ending, poor infrastructure and no experience with it.
