Its virtually universally agreed that set theory is the foundation for all modern mathematics

so why does early schooling spend years and years learning arithmetic with natural numbers and memorizing useless formulas of geometric objects for a basis of math? Wouldn't it make more sense to introduce set theory at a younger age to ease better into higher abstract thinking involving math?

>The material also put new demands on teachers, many of whom were required to teach material they did not fully understand. Parents were concerned that they did not understand what their children were learning and could not help them with their studies. In an effort to learn the material, many parents attended their children's classes. In the end, it was concluded that the experiment was not working, and New Math fell out of favor before the end of the decade, though it continued to be taught for years thereafter in some school districts.

Set theory is one, and it works pretty well.

Model theory is another one, and it works pretty well.

Category theory is another one, and it works pretty well.

There is no "universal foundation", there will always be multiple different ways to do that, and none of them will be inherently better than the other.

Set theory is built on first order logic for which finitary arithmetic is essential

That's pretty much the problem with education right now. Parents don't understand so they flip out if anything changes. And also the fact that its no longer on the student to get good grades. Parents blame the teachers instead.

Most people are never going to study higher abstract maths
