What is the quickest way to learn set theory? I need to learn it soon but do not want to spend so much time on it if I do not need to.

There is literally nothing wrong with Rick and Morty.

Just pick up any intro yo proofs book. Most important things are terminology and identities like de morgans law.
After that, you can practice by reducing pretty much anything to set theoretics

How is it any different if you're a contrarian faggot and base your preferences on the opposite of what everyone else thinks, instead of deciding for yourself? You're still letting other people control your decisions, but in a way that's arguably less productive.

Depends on the level you want

Fastest path I'd say is reading halmos but you won't learn much. I found that the intro chapter to munkres topology has all you'll really need plus a good amount of exercises

I bet this pleb can't even appreciate the depth of writing that happens in rick in morty. Pfff, stick to big bang theory, kid

>> No.9829048

Are you interested in researching set theory? If not, then the first chapter/section in every math textbook gives you pretty much all you need to know. Munkres' Topology book has a pretty good (though a bit long) one.

If you only need the bare basics, read the first chapter of Hammack's Book of Proof: https://www.people.vcu.edu/~rhammack/BookOfProof/BookOfProof.pdf

For something a tad bit more advanced, try Kunen's Foundations of Mathematics: https://www.math.wisc.edu/~miller/old/m771-10/kunen770.pdf

Don't you see just how hard you're projecting? You like a thing because it's popular and you want to qualify yourself for a peer group, so you assume that if he dislikes it it must be because he is being contrarian and trying to qualify himself to a different peer group. As if having an independent opinion is not even an option.

Your entire original argument was about how holding some opinion makes others perceive you, with no reference to the validity of the actual opinion at all. And then you wonder why people on 4chan fucking hate ebin upboat plebbitors like you.

I came here to recommend Kunen, top tier.

Munkres topology is also a great direction, but not for set theory. I think he does TFAE AC/Zorn/Tychonoff as the apex of the point-set part of the book, which is cool and very set theory-y.

there's nothing to learn in set theory, just draw some venn diagrams and that solves all set theory problems. I suggest you go and buy stewart to learn calculus or some other subject that's actually interesting.
