Because they hamper movement, require more calories and reduce dexterity.
You need movement for escaping predators, and hunting.
You need to balance calorie requirement, otherwise you'll starve (certainly if your huge muscles hamper your food gathering).
You need dexterity to make tools for food gathering.
In other words, they probably got eaten or where to too clumsy to catch anything or craft anything to improve their hunting, so they starved.

Muscles require a ton of food, and you can’t turn them into energy like your fat tissue.

If we were living on tree branches like chimps, it would be a different story, as their muscles are necessary for climbing, thus survival. Humans on the other hand were endurance hunters, where excess muscle mass is would have hampered them.

Females selecting males based solely on aesthetic appearance is an extremely new event. What's more, prehistoric men were necessarily fit, to the extent that they needed to be able to operate as hunters in running several miles daily to track down prey. While an extremely muscular man will be able to easily --as a rule of thumb-- defeat another smaller human in battle, against other opponents in nature they are not of huge importance for two reasons: First, a large amount of muscle mass necessarily weakens stamina when running long distances. Secondly, a large amount of muscle mass will not make you any more capable to fight off animals that were already a threat to human in single combat, large cats and the like. Humans most effectively hunted in packs, and by exhausting animals with their heightened stamina.

Put simply, the notion of a chiseled physique being of utmost importance is a modern invention. If it continues to be selected for it will naturally become more common. That said, to assume that selection pressures will stay the same is naive.

Muscles, like you imagine, exist in a world of many possibilities. Dinosaurs were apparently apex killing machines ruling the world for millions of years. This is where the evolutionary muscles actually fell to simpler things like strong jaws.
Human muscle also exists in a competitive environment, but this would have to be considered separately in early man and modern man. In early man, muscles were not optimal compared to tactics and planning, agriculture and sedation more or less.
In modern man, the environment muscles fight with are now in the world of the mind and meme. They are a reflection of a persons values by whatever source they come from. There is where they have the strongest chance, in pure fantasy and the ineffable.

You can compare the bodies of a bodybuilder and a prize fighter (or any other professional marital artist) though.
The fighters are universally leaner, to keep them light on their feet and capable of utilising a wider range of motion in combat. Since the fighter body type would probably have had greater survivability back in the caveman days (thanks to needing less calories and being more effective at both fighting and running away) a genetic predisposition toward large amounts of muscle mass would not be as strongly selected for.

Genetics, regardless of what the clinically obese would have you believe, don't actually have that big an impact on your fat/muscle/etc ratios. Sure, it can give you traits like a barrel chest or zipper abs, and of course there's little you can do to increase or decrease your height beyond a certain point, but like 2/3rds of the factors are about:
A) How you take care of yourself during your developmental years.
and
B) Your way of life, now.

You could have the best muscle-growing genes on the planet, but if you exclusively laze about eating Cheetos and watching Netflix in your spare time, you'll be just as out of shape as everybody else that does.

Additionally, the use of tools greatly mitigates the need for physical superiority. Human evolution prioritized biological efficiency and thinking power above all else. We do thermal adaptability, tool use, and (if in shape) long-term exertion better than the bulk of the animal kingdom.

I'm pretty sure the fact that some people are too lazy to do the work to get them plays a role in sexual selection or something. Also I think another part is that it may be beneficial for your body only to use resources when that specific part of the body is being used, in situations of scarcity for example the body may not be able to afford to maintain powerful muscles, in times of affluence it may benefit from storing energy in case of scarcity. Because biology isn't dynamic. It doesn't suddenly modify itself to the current environment out of nowhere. In particular, it really really doesn't like spending energy when it doesn't have to, and being an 1st world obese person isn't going to change that. In fact, your body probably thinks it's really smart, stocking up all that junk energy you ate while saving up energy NOT developing muscles that it KNOWS you don't use because there's no actual load being placed on them. You think biology has future thinking like "I bet I'll have to use the muscles in the future, let me build it today since the energy is abundant"? Think again, fucker. Biology is fucking retarded. It's actually a wonder how it works at all. it's a start. Been working out two years, being lean is underrated. Being bulky for me isn't worth it.
I'm a bit leaner now, much more female attention, and eng girls are shy around me lmao.

>Not at his weight and height. Which, by the way, placed him within the morbidly obese range. - Which, regardless of cardio, is terrible for your health.

No, it fucking isn't. BMI is a ratio of your height to weight you inbred. Even grade schoolers know it's not a hard and fast metric to use when analyzing athletes.

>Steroids, you mean.
Yeah, the ones that conveniently cause ALL THE PROBLEMS that led to his death.

>Go and research the negative impact of weightlifting and bodybuilding upon the body.
Trust me, before I REALLY have to tear into you.
I already did. That's why I'm calling you a retard, retard.

>Why haven't huge muscles been selected for?

You do realize that mankind has one of the largest penis in relation to body size among all mammals.
Human males HAVE been selected for certain traits, muscle mass is not one of them.

i think its a waste of mental essence to converse about this topic when it can be reallocated to actually exercising

i dont see why everyone gets all loathesome. going to the gym is really easy and enjoyable and greaseballs will die in their own filth eventually if not inhibited from workplace progression and mental clarity

Yes evolution is real, but it doesn't work as many people and you believe, it's not a matter of improving it is just a matter of how much a specie can reproduce. Since humans are able to reproduce and sutain the specie without the need of muscular man there's no natuaral selection by this point of view and so muscular hunter man are no longer needed to sustain life and reproduce

>“Early farming men had these really strong leg bones – when you compared them to living men they were close to what you see in living runners, suggesting they were really active,” said Macintosh. “Then [there is] this really progressive decline though time in bone strength, down to what you see in living sedentary undergraduate students at Cambridge.”

>Prehistoric women had stronger arms than elite female rowing teams do today thanks to the daily grind of farming life, researchers have revealed

http://www.newsweek.com/women-men-who-are-tall-and-lean-probably-because-we-still-behave-ancient-747638

> A survey of 150 women revealed that a man’s attractiveness came down to perceived strength, height and a lean body type. Researchers determined this with an experiment showing full-length images of various males to women. The raters then ranked physical strength and attractiveness.

Overwhelmingly, women thought the strongest men were also the best-looking. They also had a preference for tall, lean guys.

The reason, it seems, isn’t purely physical. Researchers believe that these preferences are tied to survival.

>Past research has shown that women really are attracted to men who have features associated with survival or virility.
