Is this a good CS curriculum?

I think it’s what I want to major in and it’s at a decent state school (MTU) but I don’t want to JUST myself and end up unemployable.

The school advertises 98% job placement though so I’m probably being too dramatic

I mean it's as good as you can get in most mutt unis.
If you are interested in the theory jut do a maths degree, if you are interested in being a programmer, just do software engineering in a cheap place and create a portfolio and work part-time besides the light course load
otherwise, come home to europe white man

This is really important, OP. After getting an undergraduate degree in maths all material up to and including graduate level cs is up for grabs. Also I can't stress enough how true the meme of cs students being retarded is, so keep that in mind as well.

The biggest joke of CS is how far behind you are from day 1. There are kids who started programming at age 10 and are already designing their own physics engines and they are going to beat the shit out of you in the interviews after college.

There is no other field where you are so far behind on day 1. Prove me wrong.

I'm all for rigor in CS, but this course of study is more than likely not possible. Ignoring the constant studying with no time to rest, this would be a scheduling nightmare. Honestly, if we want to cover most or all of this, then there should be a widespread adoption to make an optional 5 year CS degree. You could have the "I kinda just wanna write code, make games, and get into the industry" 4 year degree or the "I respect this subject and want to be an academic" 5 year degree.

I'd just say this is what must be done to get a good grounding, ready for real study into STEM.
If you couldn't hope with this, then you aren't dedicated enough to really have a full understanding to a polymathic detail.
Now, I'm not saying that you're any lesser for not adhering to this standard, but if you truly had a bordering on the autistic obsession with STEM knowledge, you would dedicate yourselves.
I mean, if you aren't doing anything throughout your day and you should already have a few passive streams of income (investment), then you should be dedicating around 8-10 hours a day to study.
Just a thought.

thats absurd and unhealthy. a good portion of your day, especially as a young man, should be physical activity and diet. 12 credits is totally appropriate and should remain the standard. if you have nothing to do and are independently wealthy, 4 years or 5 years makes no difference anyways.

I'm definitely a dork, but I'm not one who posts a meme list and acts as if it's a trivial task to get through all of it. You're looking at booking classes from multiple departments and possibly different schools. Even assuming that these courses are cross listed in other departments, taking 5-6 courses in a semester means you're going to get schedule conflicts since you're bound to find that two departments schedule their classes in the same time blocks. This problem becomes way worse as you work your way through the curriculum, as there are fewer professors who teach sections of the higher level courses (naturally, they're specialized and not nearly as many people take a special topics course as they do an intro course). Anyone who puts more than 5 minutes of thought into this can see that it's a bad plan that sets one up for failure.

>> No.9820053

I'm not saying that you're cripplingly depressed. I know you're baiting, but it's honestly not a life to live. Erdos, a man who literally devoted every waking moment of his life to mathematics, used it as a social activity to bond with other mathematicians and children. Even the man most famously, autistically devoted to mathematics had a social life, so much so that there are numbers devoted to the impact he has had on the mathematics community.
