Africa isn't "barren" by any means, but it's certainly a hostile environment and the animals in Africa aren't fit for using for labor because they're nearly impossible to domesticate.

On race and IQ -
It has nothing to do with religion because there is no supernatural force involved. The fixation index for humans is astonishingly low. Half that of dog breeds. Then, there are all the issues with IQ itself. IQ is psych, and the current state of psych is effectively pseudoscience. The twin studies, the major foundation for IQ being genetic, were debunked. The IQ between siblings barely correlates (25% more correlation than two unrelated people), and when you factor in the fact that two siblings are going to have almost the exact same upbringing, you can see how little IQ has to do with genetics.

Jews, with an average IQ of 115, are 1 SD above gentile whites.

Second of all, the african savannah is way more dangerous than the eurasian plains, this is why Zebras like almost all animals are hard to hunt and domesticate. They evolved into being able to fight or flight from predators of any kind, including humans, so for this reason they never played a role in domestication.

Another example of this are goats and gazelles. Goats are very easy to domesticate, why gazelles arent.

There are also animals in the eurasian plains that never got domesticated, like deers or bears.

circus is not a modern thing, people "tamed" lions and other non-domesticable animals long before modern times. Roman gladiator fight are one example of this, but there are examples from more primitive cultures as well.
