The only thing that connects our current conscious state ("Now") with our conscious state from say 10 years ago is our memories. What about when memories are lost due to brain damage or alzheimer's. The "you" from 10 years ago is still "you" now even though there is no connection between the 2 conscious states right?

So what's the difference between your conscious state now and somebody else's? It has the same connection as someone with alzheimer's.

Read A. E. van Vogt's "The World of Null-A", it tries to define a human being by its memories

Consciousness being continuous is unfalsifiable, anyone claiming it is should re-evaluate their views.

Imagine a grid of 10,000,000,000 x 10,000,000,000 neurons. Now imagine some of those are dedicated to what you hear, what you see, what you feel, what you think, and what you taste, and what you smell.

Now imagine all of those neurons working in sync and activating based on what room you are on. A subset of neurons fires depending on what room you are in. Your thinking center neurons get the signal that everything is ok.

Now imagine a disease that starts destroying parts of this grid. Suddenly you don't remember being in your own bedroom before. Suddenly the experience feels new. Suddenly faces look new. Suddenly it becomes hard to not shit your own pants.

As soon as you imagine your own brain as a pattern recognition grid every single question about consciousness becomes clear.

I don't know if this related to the thread but haven't there been cases of people developing entirely new personalities through head trauma? I find that kinda stuff fascinating really where all it takes is a whack to the head and you're a totally different person.

Elaborate? Just because it is unfalsifiable now doesn't mean it will forever be unfalsifiable, no?

"You" only exists when you think about it. Like right now. When you eat apple or fapping to traps "you" does not exist, because you don't think about it. But when you remember how you ate apple -- that's already a memory, not "you". And memories can be erased or falsified. All you need is to stop thinking about "you". You can achieve this by meditation. There is no "you". You will need many years to achieve this. But when you succeed you will become immortal.

I've been reading about the concept of no-self in Buddhism. I simultaneously understand it and don't
