I am not a bucket of water. I do not care when I freeze or boil, however I want to know when it's cold enough for the sea to freeze (0F) or when it's uncomfortably hot outside (100F). There's also a higher range of graduation without decimalization. Keep Celsius for science, but it's absolutely garbage for gauging the comfort of people.

>> No.9756757

Practically the whole world uses celsius. There have been problems in the past translating imperial to metric (etc). Just join the club already.

The rest of the world is retarded. Fahrenheit is superior for judging weather comfort.

Let me clue you in to how celcius works.
When it is negative, stay in side.
When it is positive, it's shorts and jandals weather.

But most seawater freezes at −2 °C (28 °F). I agree that 100F is a nice indicator of the outside environment, but you have to admit that the environment changes more drastically at 0C, where snow develops. Which is a great indicator of human comfort in the environment, not when all seawater freezes at 0F.
You argue that we should use fahrenheit because it is more relatable to people, but how is the must-freeze temp. of seawater relatable to most people? Especially in the many landlocked states of the US.

This. Fahrenheit is usefully calibrated to when the weather is deadly cold or deadly hot.

They're both arbitrary as fuck anyway, might as well go with the one that's relevant to human comfort.

Every Fahrenheit user keeps the number 32 in their head for weather purposes so they can know if it's freezing or not. They remember 212 so they can cook. The only story here is that you've lived so long in a prison of retardation, you've grown to love your chains.

I think Celcius is more convenient than Fahrenheit as a scale for measuring weather temperatures, because the freezing point of water is so important in exactly that application, but I can see how others would disagree; it's a small difference, and both preferences are sensible.

Likewise, I can see some benefits in inches and feet over meters and centimeters, when trying to measure pieces of masonry for making buildings or furniture. Not inarguable ones, but sensible enough to be a matter of taste.

However, that's completely besides the point. A system of measurements is enormously more practical when it has a single set of measurements for a particular quantity that fits well with almost every application of it. That means a temperature scale that is practical for measuring body temperature, AND weather temperature, AND the temperature of my pizza oven, AND the melting point of iron, AND the air temperature at airliner cruising height. Likewise, I want a length scale that is convenient for describing door heights, and bacteria diameters, and interplanetary distances.

Fahrenheit and inches are both rubbish at that, and that inconvenience VASTLY outstrips the importance of how easily you can eyeball measurements of particular common applications. This is the real advantage of the metric system.
