I can't decide.

Which one will take my mind to the next level?

Studying algebra is proven to lead to mental illness in the form of an obsession with category theory.

Analysis. Algebra is for academicucks who will spend 8 years on a PhD/Postdoc only to make $60k starting salary or another $40k Postdoc

Both are terrible but at least people claim algebra is somehow useful and give pathetic arguments for it like mixing colors.

It doesn't make much sense here to compare branches of engineering with branches of mathematics.

i took algebra as far as i could before taking analysis and this was my experience

algebra will improve your abstract reasoning and improve your rate of intuition
you start to just "feel" structures, and how proofs involving them will flow

analysis will make you a skeptic and help prevent errors
there's a lot of pedantry and fine detail involved with it and it will teach you to look at all the tools in your toolbox before reaching for a tool you're not sure you actually need

they cross at some point, i don't remember if it was in complex anal or topology, but it feels good when everything just comes together
i recommend algebra first though so you don't ragequit

Analysis will ensure your place in heaven after your eventual parting from this world. Committing yourself to analysis is like spending your due time in purgatory in advance

studying algebra was fun and illuminating
meanwhile when i finished my baby's first analysis class take-home final i felt like i had been beaten up. probably being forced to use maple was a big part of that. but there's just something inherently boring about spending hours proving error bounds and deriving method #246 of finding the area under a curve. always had trouble staying awake in class.
but i'm an engineering phd brainlet so my opinion doesn't really count for shit.

Galois was known to fuck women, party, and duel other guys for fun. He failed university and did everything on his own. He died due to wounds inflicted in a duel; there's no greater honor that dying in combat. Newton died a hermetic virgin and depended on his teacher to develop the fundamental theorem of calculus.

If you are an undergrad (and you probably are, otherwise you likely wouldn't ask), you really can't do one and not the other (at least if you plan on doing math later on)

Why not? Analysis isn't really used in mathematics so I don't see how knowing it would benefit you.

>> No.9736410

>>9736310
Analysis isn't necessary if you have a strong foundation in calculus. I've had prestigious professors straight up tell me it's worthless compared to algebra. But since modern calculus textbooks are dumbed down shit, it's necessary to take a more rigorous analysis course.

That isn't used in mathematics either so what exactly would require a mathematician to have a "strong foundation" in it?
