"There is a correlation of r = -0.82 (p = 0.0003) between average GRE Quantitative score and percent women in a discipline. This is among the strongest correlations I have ever seen in social science data. It is much larger than Leslie et al’s correlation with perceived innate ability."

Can you tell me what r=-0.82 with p=0.0003 implies for this graph?

>> No.9724748

>>9724533
r^2 % of variation in y is explained by variation in x.

p-value is very small so the results are stastically significant.

linear regression is fucking gay.

if population 1 has an average GREMath score 1 standard deviation greater than population 2 then you should predict that it also has .82 standard deviation less percent female than population 2

This is probbbbbably pseudoscience... but my guess would be it's due to evolutionary differences.

For various reasons, more sociable women would generally be able to pass their genes on. This would require skills like being able to read and assess emotions quickly, understand other peoples mind frames, use language and social skills to their advantage. I think it's the better innate understanding of language that would form for these reasons which would allow women to perform better here.

Men on the other hand needed more analytical skills: how hard and at what angle should I huck this rock so I can hit that monkey? This physical intuition is why men are sperg level good at physics, it's practically our biological advantage.

stop doing this evolutionary development shit its so ad hoc you can make up a just-so story to explain just about anything

I think in the past it would have been advantageous for creatures who could create a coherent explanation for the present, as it would allow them to make sense of the world, and make them less anxious about the future, and calm their fellow tribesmen. These creatures would have gone on to produce more progeny as a result, leading to the evolutionary development shitposters you see populating online message boards like /sci/ today.
