Hey /sci/! I'm trying to orgamize a suicide plan. I want to tie myself to a balloon and float into space and die.

I just have some questions:

1.)How much gas will I need to lift myself? I weight about 180lbs. How many balloons will I need? Obviously money isn't a problem because I'll be dead. Helium or Hydrogen?

2.) How quickly will I pass out? What's an estimated altitude I'll go unconscious, and how quickly will I reach that height?

3.) How far will I travel? When the balloons pop and I fall to the ground, what are the chances I land near were I lifted off?

4.) Has anyone ever done this before? I'm trying to come up with a creative way to die. I've been really into the song Space Oddity, and it seemed like something to listen to while I float into space

Don't do it man unless you're really fucked? How fucked are you?

Type: The balloon is filled with helium to create lift. Helium is non-flammable, non-toxic if vented to the atmosphere and a safe, predictable method of ascent.

Material: It is constructed of strips of high-performance polyethylene (plastic) film that is only 0.0008 inches thick. In total, these strips would cover 40 acres if they were laid flat. Polyester-fibre reinforced load tapes are incorporated to do the weight bearing.

Size, volume and shape: The balloon for Felix's mission from the edge of space will be nearly 30 million cubic feet in capacity - 10 times larger than Joe Kittinger's balloon in 1960.

At launch, it will be tall and thin, stretching 55 stories high. As the balloon ascends, the helium will expand and the balloon will slowly fill out to an almost completely round shape:

Length of uninflated balloon before launch: 592.41 feet. Height of balloon at take-off: 550 feet. The height from the top of the balloon to bottom of the capsule will be: 695 feet. Size of balloon at 120,000 feet: Height 334.82 feet / Diameter: 424.37 feet

Weight: The uninflated balloon weighs 3,708 pounds

You will die long before space.

You'll definitely pass out quick by 15k meters, probably a lot before

http://tools.highaltitudescience.com/

Get 5 of those balloons 3000g balloons at $400 each, plus $10k or so to buy the helium and tanks

Bring insulation and a mini oxygen tank so you can actually get really high before you pass out

Also some opiates to help with the cold but not too much unless thats what you want

Also maybe like a parachute or some other way to get yourself down in case you change your mind at the very last second. You never know when you might find another reason to live

hahahaha you fucking fat fuck
>coward is scared to die in a war, so he chose to die at home inhaling helium
At least b4 you suicide have some courage, at least.

A fuckload and that's the least of your problems. You're gonna need a big balloon. Unless you want to be another lawn chair larry, you're gonna a pretty goddamn big balloon. Party and weather balloons just ain't gonna cut it.

This anon has got the right idea. You need to make a special type of balloon to get really fucking high. This pdf details how to design high altitude balloons.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiShdekne3aAhUhw1kKHbjkCwYQFggoMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.springer.com%2Fcda%2Fcontent%2Fdocument%2Fcda_downloaddocument%2F9780387097251-c1.pdf%3FSGWID%3D0-0-45-740923-p173843909&usg=AOvVaw27wUiozpgCbBw_g7d8-7j7

You're gonna make something like anon described, thin polyethylene sheets with load bearing fibers at the seams. Making a huge balloon like this requires a number a things, the key element being a really fucking long hallway. You need a really fucking long hallway to cut big sheets of plastic to shape(called gores) and fuse them together.

Once you have made your balloon, a big problem that arises is launching it. Launching high altitude balloons is quite different than letting a party balloon go. So one thing about high altitude balloons is that they have to be launched partially inflated, this is to allow the lifting gas to expand as altitude increases. You need a crane to lift the inflated part off the ground and a big long debris free 'run way' so that the balloon doesn't actually pop during launch. Pic related is the launch process. It is unlikely you could do this alone.

Good luck and remember to take video!

Or just buy a few commercial weather balloons which is far cheaper and will get you high enough.

Might be quicker to just take a few hot air balloon rides and then to steal one.

No, you'll only get as high as lawn chair larry. A catholic priest died doing this, but either from fall damage or landing in the ocean with no one around to help. Not from asphyxiation.

Helium, and shittons
>2.) How quickly will I pass out? What's an estimated altitude I'll go unconscious, and how quickly will I reach that height?
Depends, probably around 5,000 meters
>3.) How far will I travel? When the balloons pop and I fall to the ground, what are the chances I land near were I lifted off?
Not sure

I've launched a few balloons to over 100k feet, you'll definitely get high enough to asphyxiate if you plan it that way.

>float into space
What do you think balloons float in?
Hint: it's not "space".
