Scientifically speaking what kind of music do intelligent music prefer? Do intelligent people gravitate towards more complex music? What kinds of music do you guys prefer?

Hi like gnarls Barkley grollizas David Bowie anything really; I think the things that appeal to intellectual minds is anything with some sort of pattern or deeper meaning behind the song then again this could go for anyone

>> No.9707869

>>9707794
Well, consider the relevant domains of "intelligence" that influence affect:
>pattern recognition: High IQ people can perceive and follow more complex melodies than Low IQ people
>symbolism: HIQ people can see depth and meaning in shallow music that LIQ people like
>empathy: HIQ can appreciate what LIQ people like, but not the inverse
>catecholamines/sensation seeking: HIQ people seek out and absorb a wider variety and quantity of information, because they habituate to familiar stimuli more rapidly
If anything, this is a "negative" IQ test. If you only listen to the same 10 or so songs that were top 40s in your area, over and over again, and never branch out, you're probably a brainlet.

Personally I enjoy female vocalists and world music, like 9 Treasures, Moemoe Suzuhama, Lana Del Rey, and those playlists of Japanese military marches or whatever. Hate indie, prog rock and reggaeton.

Also, something that comes with intelligence is flexibility. I don't particularly like indie, but if I had a lot of friends into it I could probably find some groups in the genre that I like and network with them about it more rapidly and easily than a glue-huffing abo probably could.

>Frederic “Fun for the right hand only” Chopin

But no Chopin is great. I enjoy his stuff more than Beethoven on average but Beethoven is almost unarguably a more well rounded composer. You cant really compare them. While Chopin is enjoyable, nearly everything he wrote was for a solo pianist. Beethoven wrote 9 symphonies and an entire opera. Am I saying that the more prolific a composer is, the better they are? No. Im just saying to state that Chopin is somehow superior to Beethoven is stupid.

I dont know my exact IQ but tested into GATE, so its 135 minimum. I enjoy classical music but listen to plenty of indie, and certain pop songs I get down to (recently its been Sit Next to Me by Foster the People). Overall however I prefer instrumental music. My girlfriend is an opera singer and I enjoy hearing her perform for me. Heres a piece she’s currently learning, by Faure, if any of you are familiar. Faure is great overall and Id highly recommend checking out his Requiem.

Dunno, but I care about the context way more than music itself. I like songs that remind me about some moment in my life, or that has interesting symbolism and has some interesting story extending beyond the music itself. That's why I liked to listen to anime or game osts, music made by anons, music made by interesting artists like Joji and I even listen to psytrance quite often simply because they remind me of psychodelics. But I rarely enjoy music that is similar to these in musical sense, but are from different artists because it removes all the context.

140 IQ, but I mostly listen to grunge. Nirvana, Bush, Foo Fighters, etc. I think it might be the result of conditioning from my early childhood, since most of my favorite grunge songs are the ones I remembered from back then. Then again, the songs on the radio were played because they were popular/good, so maybe my experience had nothing to do it with it. However, NCAA 06 had a kicking soundtrack and I love just about every song on there, but hardly any of those songs are popular. I'm playing Bach and Beethoven for my children until they're 8 years old.

There's nothing inherently different about different genres of music, it's all to do with sociological and cultural association.

It's completely arbitrary too - you could swap classical style music with pop punk and you'd have old people in fancy dresses going to the opera to watch pop punk concerts while you kids listened to classical.

>> No.9712892

bullshit. rock music is fundamentally rhythmic and dance-oriented. classical is typically much more subtle and is designed for attentive listening. that is not to say classical is strictly "smarter" but the social roles these forms have are not completely arbitrary.

Thanks OP. Good thread.

I have over 170 IQ and i do like quite alot of genres and classical instruments. I am very musically gifted and can listen to music completely on my own intuition. Classical, metal, electronica, rock, pop, rap, blues, jazz, instrumental, piano, chello, violin and singing just to mention a few. Just like mozart i can listen to and compose music by my ear. And you take Mozart today and you can make alot of really good matetial. Because we got alot of more sounds to take of. Just imagine Mozart on a metal band or with electronica. Your ear drums would have sex. Im not working with music or creating music. But i listened to music my whole life. And theres alot of good stuff now. But when times up, i gonna create some shit good sound. There are still some immensely good melodies we have yet not made and it's gonna pitch you down in the crack and under.

Gonna give you some good vibes
