Evolution operates on natural selection, among other forces. These are based on cause and effect, of which can be reasoned. A sexually desirable or valuable trait might not be what you value, but it just has to give you an edge for survival. Reproduction is all that matters.

Humor ties to confidence.
If you're comfortable making fun of yourself in not an overly negative way, that's attractive. If at least one person is willing to break through their insecurities, that's all it takes for the other to also feel relaxed.
Connections form, and there you go.
Also knowing that another person has insecurities and is willing to confront them, and be okay with it, is attractive.
