Stanford researchers have trained a neural network to determine the sexual orientation of a person based on their facial photos. Given five images, the neural network was able to predict with 91% accuracy whether the person was gay or heterosexual. Human judges were correct only 61% of the time.

I think it's a reasonable possibility that you've seen just as many lesbians who looked like normal women, but you simply weren't aware of their sexual orientation from a cursory glance. It's a normal, baseline response that when we see someone who looks normal, our immediate instinctual impression of them without any other data (or conscious consideration at all) is that they're probably normal in most ways.

But really, if you walk through a shopping mall for half an hour and pass by 500 strangers, you can't know the sexual orientation of 99% of them without some obvious clue like a couple holding hands. I've known a few gays to be downright boring in how otherwise normal they are.
