Labels are literally arbitrary, you fucking retard. They aren't 'reality'. 'Science' is the colloquial term for either natural sciences or all sciences. What it specifically covers varies on who is using it. Strictly speaking, by history and definition, science is actually just a general word that means 'systematic study'. Labels that have been built up to cover fields in STEM considered science are: formal, physical, life, social, and applied. Natural science refers to physical + life.

formal grammars are pretty much math.
context-free grammars are used for everything from fractal generation and procedural generation to syntax parsing in compilers
I don't know exactly what linguistic classes teach exactly, but at least the formal grammar portion of linguistics is math

Mathematics and science are taught and researched at universities as separate things. Polytechnical schools (the engineering equivalent of a university) serve to teach and research applications of science and mathematics. Glorified vocational colleges conduct next to no research, and teach what can barely be passed off as applications of scientific concepts.

She isn´t completely in the wrong. Science and mathematics cannot provide a moral and ethical code for a society; they are mere tools used to produce economic prosperity.

Philosophy (not the analytical autism kind) is required to produce good governance, and works in this field are invariably bound by appeals to non-scientific constructs. That´s the way the cookie crumbles.
