Pros and cons of a Psychology degree? How much of a meme science is it? I am kinda interested in the subject and don't care that much about the salary or career prospects other than possibly doing research.

>Pic hopefully wont end up related

Go into neuroscience if anything. The only non-meme area of psych is biopsych, which is neurosci without going as deep into chem/bio. Virtually every other area of psych falls into the category of corrupt, meaningless, leftist humanities.

But also keep in mind biology is the softest science, and neuroscience is just an area of bio.

This. Neurology > Psychology

Neurology is better because it's based in Bio/Chemistry

Psychology based on Humanities is just Leftist propaganda.

Do a minor in Math, EECS for Artificial Intelligence.
Or a minor in Physics or Biomedical Engineering for Medical Physics.

Neurology is a medical speciality dealing with diseases of the nervous system. It is not synonymous with neuroscience.

Also the most well respected and backed up psychological disciplines is easily behavior based psychologies. The main foundations of the area is on studies that have been replicated and expanded on since the 1930s.

Neurosciences do however rely heavily o neuropsychological principles and tests to see how things translate on the behavioral or cognitive level.

But other branches of psychology also do have reputable and repeated studies to back up their principles.

Cognitive is becoming very adaptable with the new technologies to help measure responses from the traditional eye tracking to EEG waves and even fMRI and other imaging studies.

Despite the name, social psychology is not filled with social justice warriors talking about micro aggressions. Instead it focuses on very statistically powerful effects that can influence group dynamic and has a lot of power with enhancing business efficiencies. From making patients write their own appointment dates so you have 15% less missed appointments to the classic foot in the door tactics to make people more likely to agree to something.

And before you say anything, I'm not a psychologist. I'm a medfag who realized how useful psychology can be in medicine.

Enjoy being a therapist at a second rate drug rehab place. If you have even a hint of cynicism don't get a psychology degree.

By anyone who actually read the damn thing including Harvard's department.

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2016/03/study-that-undercut-psych-research-got-it-wrong/

The studies were hand-picked, not evenly distributed and purposely didn't consist of the more common and higher regarded specialities like behavior, cognitive and neuroscience and the replication themselves were completely piss poor. For instance, one study involved showing a video to college students and in that video it involved an altercation between other student from that same college and a rival college. So you know how they replicated it? They showed the same damn video to random people in another country and expected it to elicit the same result.

If all of that isn't enough to show how terrible it was they flat out had a statistical error that when fixed showed the type 1 error rate is what you would expect by random chance.

OP here, any way to find out if I really am interested in Psych or is this just a whim?

Usually people who are fucked up have a significant interest in psych, because they want to understand why their head is such a mess. Are you fucked up OP?
