Hello, /sci/.

I usually don't come here, but I have a question. What do you think about synchronicity? I'm sure you all have experienced it at some point. What is the /sci/ explanation for this?

Btw, I posted this on /x/ earlier, but apparently none of them know what it is, seeing as it's not about ghosts or succubi.

What is synchronicity? Some kind of alignment of patterns?

>> No.963846

it's a fundamental law of the universe, like entropy or conservation of energy

The naturalistic, parsimonious explanation, is that any synchronicity is just an improbable coincidence that happens ever so often, sometimes aided by the tendency to see connections in the details of daily life. This may be psychologically unsatisfactory, given our desire to see meaning and deeper interrelatedness between all things, but there isn't any demonstration or solid evidence that this is anything outside of numbers and probability at play with subjective interpretation.

Bump? Is this the consensus?

it's not a probabilistic phenomena, you can repeat the experiment of the metronomes and it will always work

basically an atheist?

Resonant harmonics or something it was called. Basically, in any system with two driven oscillations that are out of sync, they resonate and this damps the both of them. The state of equilibrium is therefore the state with the least damping which is when they are in sync. The minute differences slowly push the two oscillators together.

At least that's what I think about it.

Forgive me if I'm being dense, but what does this have to do with synchronicity? Unless you mean synchronous, in that case it makes sense.

Miller: A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I'm glad someone appreciates my work.

That's all you got /sci/? I am disappoint.

Synchronicity happens because of the interconnected nature of all things. Nothing exists of itself, there is dependant co-arising. One because of the other, to where a butterfly's wings cause a hurricane on the other side of the world.
