Alright, /sci/

I've got this problem thats kicking my ass:

Find x and y that solve the following system:
ln(x^2+y) = 1 - y
xy = -sqrt(x)

Any help would be appreciated
Pic related; it's what matlab returned

>> No.961987

are you sure that is the problem?

>> No.962016

Yeah, that's what I said....
But yes, I am sure.

learning real math instead of masturbating with matlab could help

OP here

Apparently Wolfram is better than Matlab at solving. Still looking for an algebraic solution...

The answer is phone. But who the fuck was he?

It's a matlab class; Math 451. We're currently doing Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel methods, but for some reason he's assigning this shit which isn't related.

>> No.962095

just from looking at it i can tell y=1 and x=0..don't know any way to solve for one or the other

That's what I got, but I'm pretty sure he want's the other one...

Your first problem is using Matlab for symbolic math.

Second, you don't know how to even use help for that specific function. The output is a god damned structure variable you moron.

1) I know, it blows nuts with symbolic notation.
2) I know, if you open g.x and g.y it returns some wicked complex number, which isn't correct.

What is an X???

what sort of faggot matlab are you running?

>> No.962284

OP again, maybe some background will help;
I suck nuts at algebra, (inb4 dumb americunt), and I got x=0 and y =1 but realized that's an asymptote.
Went to the TI-89, which returned more symbolic crap.
Since this was a matlab class problem I figured I'd try matlab, which returned more complex crap.

All I want is some damn help solving this algebraically for the other answer, (x = 2.41, or whatever).
