We know the more elder brothers you have, the more likely you are to be gay. So one reason why could be to increase the chances of your genes being passed on, it's easier to invest resources into taking care of your elder brother(s) offspring than to invest in your own.

Homophilia is widespread in the animal kingdom though, so it's probably not the most important reason.

Well, that's a backward question. I think you should ask "Why homophobia?", and not "Why not?". The first argument is usually that homosexuality is unnatural, because it is a mutation on the desire to have sex for the sake of reproducing.

In evolutionary psychology, proximate cause does not have to equal ultimate cause, and societal factors can have an outsized effect on the expression of your genetic traits – this is the entire field of epigenetics.

If a man and a woman fuck for the pleasure of fucking, while taking precautions to not get the woman pregnant, that is not "unnatural", nor a sign of a "genetic mutation" on either part, even though they can never reproduce and their desires can never propagate their genes this way. The proximate cause to find have sex, or to find sex desirable (to incentivize reproduction) is not equal to the ultimate cause (it just feels good even without reproducing), but that's okay. This ultimate cause may still genetically exist (most couples do, at some point, want to have kids should the relationship succeed), but it's expression has been altered for some societal reasons (Mom and Dad are waiting to get their PhDs finished up).

Similarly in the case of homosexuality. Some combination of social and genetic factors have led to some population of men desiring other men (and similarly for women desiring other women), and these desires may never lead to reproduction. But, again, that's okay, because the ultimate cause of having sex, or finding sex enjoyable, is still to reproduce. It's just that it's proximal manifestation is not equal to it's ultimate cause. But, you'll find that, despite them never being able to do it from the way that they rub uglies, homosexuals will still abstractly WANT children or a family, whether it be through surrogacy or adoption. So that ultimate cause still exists in the brain.

Further arguments for homophobia usually sit in the "Durr... muh Child molesters" logic space. That argument is bad because it's pretty hard to come to any conclusion about how ANY child molester's sexual typology is oriented gender-wise, let alone a conclusion about ALL or MOST child molesters. I don't have the time to type it out, but the psychology department at UC Davis has a pretty strong article on it, and on the methodological failings of the papers that posit a link between homosexuality and child molestation. Just Google "homosexual child molestation UC Davis".

Sometimes arguments are actually rooted in problems prevalent throughout gay culture (domestic abuse among lesbians, HIV incidence among gay men). But just because problems persist in certain cultures doesn't mean the act is inherently wrong; straight people fight and get each other sick all the time, too, doesn't mean the act of being straight is an inherent ethical mistake.
