Alice Young, Ph.D in physics,computer programmer, professor in psychological sciences, pharmacology, psychiatry AND neuroscience.

I sometimes feel bad for how jealous teenagers would be of Neil Degrasse Tysons Son. Especially Black Teenagers from the ghetto who don't want to be ghetto thugs or seen that way and have many personal issues.

As a black teenager who grew up in the ghetto in brooklyn with 2 messed up parents who was seen as a thug but wasn't, I will tell you that these people need to get over their emotions even if its difficult. Your life is much easier when you dont spend it being jealous and wondering why your parents aren't celebrities. Its sad, but you have to push through and adapt. I could have grown up in iraq under isis. My life wasn't that fucking bad. Nor were the lives of the other niggas around here.

He is definitely a good role model, but there are some black kids from the hood who really are into science (I was one of them). At certain times, with my fucked up family I would have sold my soul to the devil (if the devil was real) to be Neil Degrasse Tyson's son. Or I could have saw that video of his son on family feud one day I was pissed off and killed myself.

Still definitely good role models, but there is kinda two sides to the coin. I've grown past my jealousy but for a lot of people they still have a long way to go where they can look at Neil's family and not be pissed off with their own life, even people from messed up white families.
