I hope the plane is so big that the airline can afford to give us a little legroom -- so passengers can recline somewhat and I can sleep.

Lucid dreaming isn't too hard, the trick is to get yourself in the right mindset, by reading about lucid dreaming and doing reality checks you automatically increase your chances of lucid dreaming, just do the stuff they say like keeping a dream journal and doing reality checks for a while and you will get lucid dreams.
The most effective reality check for me was getting in the habit of pulling my index fingers every once in a while, in the dream my finger would stretch and I would instantly realize I'm dreaming, the problem is that you don't really think about doing a reality check until you suspect that you're dreaming and that's where the mindset part is important.
Sadly my lucid dreams were mostly pretty shallow and happened when I was about to wake up, but my most amazing dreams were during my lucid dream obsession era too. I kinda forgot the whole thing though since I was getting overly obsessed with it and felt the dreams were losing their dreamlike qualities and getting formulaic, I was pretty depressed too and lucid dreams felt like escapism.

The most important thing is

1. Having a regular sleep schedule. This was pretty hard, but almost all the problems i had with lucid dreaming disappeared once i started getting 8 hours of sleep.

2. Dream journal. This is the essential part. We dream for almost the entirety of our rem sleep, which is distibuted over 5-6 periods (assuming you get 8hrs of sleep), which means you have 5+ dreams every single night. However, people usually very very rarely remember their dreams usually only a couple minutes every month, which is like 0,2% of total dream time, so even if one were to become lucid you most likely wouldnt be able to remember it (this is slightly remedied by lucid dreams being easier to remember as you're more mentally there, but the point still stands.

The other comment is correct, but it wont matter unless you do these two things.
