A lot of theorems in commutative algebra are sort of generalizations of theorem in elementary number theory. So it may help with motivation in understanding said theorems when you go to learn commutative algebra for algebraic geometry.

However, unless you do arithmetic geometry, not much else will show up. Maybe some analytic number theory when dealing with the complex geometry of elliptic curves.

I found it fun. I get to touch a little of almost every field of mathematical logic and have a lot of breadth in mathematics. My subfield is in classification problems, so we have to know a lot of various problems in point set topology, algebraic and graph structures. Some people deal with classification of C* algebras and operators so even as far as functional analysis.
>>9485916
I don't know why people shit on set theory. Probably think everybody just plays with axiomatics and large cardinals and it's pointless to the rest of mathematics, in other words they don't know what a majority of set theorists do. I don't know any books that cover all those topics, but for set theory you should work through Kunen at least to understand most special topics in set theory.

Personally, I worked through about the first half of this book https://www.amazon.com/Algebraic-Geometry-Complex-Numbers-Universitext/dp/1461418089 and the first 3 chapters of Eisenbud&Harris before attempting Hartshorne.

The first book is really nice if you have prior experience with differential geometry.

The first 3 chapters of Eisenbud&Harris are similar to chapter 2 of Hartshorne, but give a lot more geometric intuition for why the various definitions are the way they are. For instance, Eisenbud&Harris does a really good job giving geometric intuition for flatness (something that Hartshorne approaches very abstractly).

Enderton does a more axiomatic development than Baby Jech, for instance he'll build the real numbers from ZFC in like 5 chapters. But Baby Jech covers a few more interesting topics (descriptive set theory, combinatorial set theory, large cardinals ).

Precalculus texts are a waste of time unless you want to study engineering (since a lot of precalc books have a focus on applications, like Stewart's shitty Precalculus), because of how poorly the subjects are being studied. It's not helpful to study anything with the label 'precalculus'.

If you want to study trigonometry, get a trigonometry textbook. If you want to study polynomials, go get a book on elementary algebra. And so on.

Geometry existed before the Creation, is co-eternal with the mind of God, is God himself (what exists in God that is not God himself?). Geometry provided God with a model for the creation and was implanted into man, together with God's own likeness—and not merely conveyed to his mind through the eyes.

That said, I also bought a GTM from Springer directly, and Springer told me it was POD before I bought it. It's probably garbage, as I haven't gotten it yet. If you have access to Springer's ebooks on their website, you can get a MyCopy, which is $25, so at least you save some money getting a physical book without really losing the quality because its still going to be POD. No, AI books are horrendous blobs of buzzwords hiding very simple concepts from calc, lingebra and other introductory undergrad math courses. The best intro to AI is going through 2-3 semesters and then reading the papers. I don't know of any worthwhile book, neither published, nor currently in writing.

I've got a complete shelf filled up with GTM texts I like - just buy withdrawn library exemplars at amazon - you might get very good ones extremely cheap (same for other series)

Nathanson isn't "pre-algebra" at all. Serre isn't either. Both need a certain amount of mathematical maturity, even though they are mostly elementary (but you should know some complex analysis for both).

Yes.

Formal definitions are incredibly helpful for me to understand a topic, and to do the proofs (fuck 'intuitive' proofs).

I hope someone here can help me find something similar, I really want to get a book like that :(

there are good rigorous combinatorics books out there. they don't necessarily take sets as the foundation but something higher level like integers. is that a problem? is there some problem for you to take something like peano axioms as given but zfc is a-ok? what is it with zfc that makes your peepee rise? you have been indoctrinated by the set theorists my man.
