All jokes aside, is this the greatest mind of our generation?

Certainly the most *rational* mind of a generation.

While his work isn't actually mathematically wrong, the way he argues makes him come off as an idiot. What bothers me isn't his ultrafinitistic philosophy. What bothers me is his dishonesty in the arguments he uses. He repeatedly claims that the notion of infinite sets is "logically inconsistent", but fails to point out any inconsistency. One of his favorite examples is the definition of real numbers as equivalence classes of Cauchy-sequences. He claims that this definition is "nonsense", because it's impossible to write out a Cauchy-sequence corresponding to pi. But this is not a logical inconsistency; there is no rule stating that we need to be able to write out every existing object in math. This is only a rule in his ultrafinitistic philosophy.

While not a philosophy I agree with, there are merits to ultrafinitism. If he was more honest to his viewers, and focused on presenting his argument that finite sets are the only objects applicable to the real world, rather than claiming the inconsistency of current mathematics, I'd have more respect for him.

I love his work, but I think that is a bit of an overstatement.

The real greatest mind coming through.
