Why can't you see the sky from outer space? Where does it go?

Your image shows the Earth about 2000 pixels wide. The Earth is 8000 miles in diameter so each pixel is 4 miles. Mt Everest is 5.5 miles high and the air is pretty thin by the time you get to the top.
So the atmosphere is between 1 and 2 pixels thick.

It shows better when you're on the nightside of the planet. The fuzzy blue outline on the sunlit edge.
