because as a yout I went into carpentry and civil seems like a logical next step if I don't want the time I spent to become a carpenter to be useless. took a break after my BS and now I'm working a comfy desk job in construction management.

At first I just picked it cuz I liked the idea of programming, but I've started leaning away from code monk stuff and wanted something more scientific. Im going to try and pursue machine and deep learning as their foundations involve applied mathematics and statistics which I have found to be fascinating.

I took CS, econ, stats, physics, and I hated how I am the only person in the room, sometimes even including the professor, who knows the necessary mathematics that is used in the subject. I got frustrated with this so i stayed with math. I guess what I ended up realizing was that I like math a lot.

I really don't get this meme. At my uni, depending on electives the difference between a Comp Sci and a Comp Eng degree is only four classes. I really don't see how four classes make much of a difference. At that point I see it better to study Comp Sci because you get a deeper understanding of the subject instead of a shallow understanding of EE.

My major before was chemical engineering until I realized how shit employment was so I switched just to major on a study with good job prospects. It's not bad. It's a solid degree. The problem is that employers don't know to shit about it. Besides, despite it covers a lot of things, it's not as deep as the respective "classical" degrees. Engineering physics covers fields like electronics, programming, quantum mechanics, modern physics, biology. However, you won't have the knowledge of a physicist, an electrical engineer or a biologist. It's a multidisciplinary degree that you will endow with useful skills but you will probably need a master in something more concrete.

Couldn't decide between physics and computer science, so why not go with Mathematics, the thread that ties all of the things I want to do together.

Also I'm far more interested in the theoretical and research aspects of these fields but I'm not shy from practicality, I want to focus on application of theoretical concepts rather than being a pure theorem jockey.

If anything I want to marry applied math with pure math, its a fucking crime that we have this dichotomy, GH Hardy could go suck a fat one for involving his politics in mathematics and causing that divide.

Well, my family was extremely poor and had to face a lot of difficulties, so much that I started to think “Why should I continue to live if I must just suffer?”. Because of that I decided to work like a dog in order to gain so much money that my sons and nephews won't repeat the experiences of my parents or mine.
My math teacher recommended to me to study engineering, however, even if I appreciate physics, I didn't see myself working with it my whole life.

Wanted to get a masters in Finance when I first chose my bachelors, because I like corporate finance/stocks/risk management. But I'm just now realizing that the business/finance route is taking a 'soft' approach to these subjects by leaving out a lot of the math and programming. This makes it a relatively easy, and thus less valuable masters degree than quantitative finance in my opinion, at least for the subjects that I like. The switch to quantitative finance will take me at least a year longer and I'll probably have to put way more effort into studying, but I'll be gaining a more valuable degree at the end of it.

Math/Econ

The econ because I thought it would be interesting. The math because I have this crippling disease where I impulsively sign up for things I know will be really hard for me, and math was my worst subject in high school. Furthermore I would keep signing up for math classes in areas I was worst in, which means analysis and topology. For some reason I'm really good at Algebra and discrete math.

I have no idea why I engage in this behavior, it's made my life hell.

I love the process of accumulation which this degree offers me in a dignified amount of time, the pay is good too. The people I work with are mostly positive and the amount of work I do will be a cakewalk n comparison to what i do now.

Initially because parents were convinced I would be homeless if I studied accounting so I decided to do what they want and study engineering cuz why not. The mechanical engineering lady was wasting my time and the electrical engineering guy did everything in like 5 minutes over the phone. Honestly it seems like something I wouldn't mind doing. Learning about electricity is kind of cool.
