academia - or the intelligentsia if you like - is the faction of society most densely populated by liberal minded people, "science based" indoctrinates (i.e marxists) and revolutionaries

engineers are not academics; they are builders

actual conservative people (not many exist anymore) tend to prefer tactile, tangible and traditional livings like building, fixing and farming, all of which are - as it were - subsets of engineering.

That was just a MEME you dip.

Also, engineers can feel the weight of their math. One slip and it is all bye bye. Also scientists tend to outsmart things that hurt conservatives. They know vaccines. They know robotics. They know stuff that makes life easy.

As for math, they really, honestly give no fucks. We try to protect them from themselves and others soley because they are literal autism gods and if they so choose to turn their heads to any other profession their sheer mental power tends to render whatever their focus is on into something so perfect that it makes everyone unemployed.
Programmers are mathematicians with autism under "Somewhat" a control.
An engineer is working at his desk in his office. His cigarette falls off the desk into the wastebasket, causing the papers within to burst into flames. The engineer looks around, sees a fire extinguisher, grabs it, puts out the flames, and goes back to work.

A physicist is working at his desk in another office and the same thing happens. He looks at the fire, looks at the fire extinguisher, and thinks "Fire requires fuel plus oxygen plus heat. The fire extinguisher will remove both the oxygen and the heat in the wastebasket. Ergo, no fire." He grabs the extinguisher, puts out the flames, and goes back to work.

A mathematician is working at his desk in another office and the same thing happens. He looks at the fire, looks at the fire extinguisher, and thinks for a minute, says "Ah! A solution exists!" and goes back to work.

engineering isn’t science and can be taught to any autist

maths and physics require exceptionally high iq’s to get hired in or get teaching positions in. engineers work for corporate america and build toys for the consumer base and the government

phyicists and mathematicians are uncovering the laws that govern the natural world, thought and life itself.

engineers are generally incapable of thinking abstractly. but quite practical and handy.

physicists and mathematicians are impracticle and neurotic

liberals are impracticle and neurotic and signficiantly higher iq than conservatives

engineering is a meme for people too smart for lib arts and too stupid for maths and physics

maths and physics is what the species does with its top 5 percentiles of intelligence.

maths and physics majors have the highest iq’s of any group of humans on earth

engineers are demonstrably less intelligent but more practical people, and this is evidenced by their being hired consistently more often than the former group

conservatives are practical, but generally of a lesser degree of intellect than liberals

liberals rate higher in neuroticism and abstract thinking skills than conservatives, hence the atheism and openness.

maths and physics nerds are highly neurotic and also score higher in opennness than most of the gen pop

ergo, maths and physics majors are liable to end up being politically liberal.

These posts are quite spot on, I have noticed many times that conservative thinking takes away creativity, but the other end is just as bad though (SJWs).

Also we are talking about averages: there are less intelligent physicists and extremely intelligent engineers. This is another interesting thing: a practical engineer's worth is a lot more in business terms than a shit physicist's who can't really connect the theory. On the other hand an engineer who can do that easily usually ends up being a physicist too.

I think the one of the main reasons why scientists and mathematicians are so liberal is that we're trained in academia, where the model is socialism, essentially. We all fight for grants that are doled out by the government; in other words, the government is controlling the "economy", more or less, rather than the private sector.

(For that matter, there really isn't much of a private sector for basic research. This comes down to an issue of semantics and what you or I define as "basic". But, with the exception of a few famed biotech behemoths like Genentech, there is not much basic research done which isn't funded by the NIH or NSF.)

What's funny about this to me, a conservative working on a PhD in a basic science field, is how intense the fight is for grants from the private sector. Most notably, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It's the largest and perhaps the most prestigious supporter of basic biomedical research in the US. Every year, something like 1000 or 1100 PIs apply to be one of the 30 or so selected to receive $1MM/yr in funding + $~250k/yr PI salary + administrative support + funding for equipment, discretionary funds for travel and other perks, etc. So, long story short, these academic scientists and researchers who bemoan the private sector and industry and what not are fighting and scraping for HHMI funding, and then if they are lucky enough to get it expect everyone else to bow to them.
