Can we fix this?

>> No.9331202

no, brainlets from other boards and mods not doing their jobs have fucked it.

>> No.9331204

/pol/ became one of the largest boards, and some brainlets from there who can't tell apart ironic shitposting from serious posts began visiting us

>> No.9331205

>>9331184
/sci/ has been like this since at least 2010.

>> No.9331208

All of the above plus the massive influx of shills over the last two years.

I had to promise myself to never visit 4chan again because of bad influence and the huge addiction risk. The only exception I allowed myself from the beginning was /sci/ because you could argue that it's a board about useful things and without a really bad influence. So yeah, I can only post here so I do it often. Sorry for that

I don't know if you noticed, but I posted proof that even in 2015, there was a decent amount of quality content.
So, sure, whilst you CAN have an opinion, I've posted physical proof. - So, your opinion is obviously false.

Not true, OP is correct, 2014 /sci/ was a mixture of relatively good threads, with some /pol/ retards and a few retarded threads. 2017 /sci/ is 90% shitposting and /pol/ threads. Also, when I say /pol/ threads, I don't mean they're bad because they're racist, I mean they're bad because they're retarded and use manipulated data.

There were always problems though.

Most likely explaination for this shit though, some
dumb people came, some smart people left. Ignoring the middle thread at the bottom on the left, the threads on the left side are clearly mostly more insightful than shit like "An Engineering Degree is a meme" as the whole thread post.

I think this is the most accurate assessment so far.

I pretty much only stay around for the library and the odd insightful thread.
It's sad to see the state of this board, sure it wasn't perfect, but now almost all of it is race baiting or flatards.
I once remember a troll thread where someone faked building a personal fusion reactor and getting radiation sickness.
Now the extent of trolling is something along the lines of:
>tfw you fell for the engineering meme

All a board's quality boils down to is moderation. If the moderation sucks, the board sucks. It's really that simple.

>> No.9331254

>>9331249
That might be true on some bigger boards with lots of shitposters, but not really here
There simply isn't any quality content to begin with

>> No.9331255

Imageboards just don't work in the age of social media and smartphones. Imageboards are about lax moderation and anonymity. Back then the amount of new users was small enough that old users could ignore them or warn them if they didn't follow board culture. But now there are so many new users that they created a new board culture which is one of instant gratification through shitposting.

>> No.9331265

>>9331255
So, what your saying is that we need a known *chan to harbor the constructive autism of old /sci/ to improve the /sci/ board culture, local to that new destination, of course?

Depends on what you mean with "back then". When 4chan was moots sekrit playground, unironic shitposting was everywhere. The site was probably the best from 2006 to 2008, after that it went downhill with simply too many new users.
One other thing that made shitposting much easier for brainlets is the built in extension and catalog. Before that, you even had to learn how to post correctly using noko. Might seem absolutely trivial, but the paged layout with threads partially visible wasn't easy to use

If anything, it is more a mixture of Huxleyan and Orwellian oppression. That being, they use Huxleyan control via pleasure to suppress the majority and Orwellian oppression to suppress the dissident few.
>Won't take the iPhone, eh?! It's the pits for you!

>> No.9331293

Well for one thing, 26 of the threads in the catalog are pepe/wojak crossposters from /sci/ that need to permanently fuck off. Like >>9331216.
