Operations Research is part of Industrial Engineering, and you use way more math than as a EE (Topology, algebraic geometry, game theory). EE is mostly focused on physics (electromagnetism) and IE is mostly focused on math. Both degrees have brainlet and non-brailet subfields:

*Brainlet:
- EE: Power, Instrumentation, Control
- IE: Ergonomics, logistics, data science, machine learning

* Non-Brainlet:
- EE: Signal processing, Telecommunications,
- IE: Operations Research, Statistics, Process

I feel like that's only if true if you decide brainlet major by number of brainlets in it. Lots of bio students are "pre-med" and don't have any appreciation for any aspect of STEM. They pass their classes because curves make their 40-50 exam average a 70 and they go "lol Cs get degrees!"

Actually, I might have to amend that argument because I just realized that chart is GRE scores, and med students do MCAT. And, I'm not sure how many of them go into a bio masters as a fallback.

Although, it also occurs to me that Bio is a lot less mathematical at the undergrad level, so typically these students are well out of practice when they take the GRE. Meanwhile, math and physics, and even chem students are flexing their quant muscles on a fairly regular basis.

I do kinda wish bio classes in undergrad would be more math-based.

I know there are statistics saying that religious people have a lower IQ on average than non-religious ones. But that's for the whole world and skewed by the fact that almost everyone in meme countries like Pakistan, Yemen, Oman, Kenia, ... consider themselves religious.

I've been a member of 3 Christian student groups in three different cities in Northern Europe and the people I have met there appeared to be exceptionally smart on average. People doing two studies at once with ease, many medicine phd students who were apparently doing well in their studies and still able to do a ton of other things in their lives, a professor in theoretical physics who is teaching at a quite good university now, etc..
It's not uncommon for known physicists (that give interviews, write books, etc. Doesn't mean they have to be the best ones though) to be Christian, at least in my country.

So I think at least in Northern Europe, there is a positive correlation between IQ and whether a person considers himself to be Christian.

US has Pat Robertson, and that he enjoys any popularity at all speaks volumes about how intelligent some of our Christians are. So, yeah, I think your diagnosis is probably right.

Regarding this phenomenon about Smart Christians, I will say I've heard of (but have since lost my links to) studies that suggest people with exceptionally strong memory sometimes fall into Superstitious beliefs, merely because they begin see patterns where there are none. You misunderstand. When I say "Pre-med" I don't mean actual students who actually have a hope to make it into medical school. You can actually be smart and be a doctor, and these students frequently have at least some appreciation for the science.

DSP outside of theory is just using a GUI to spit out a filter. I don't care how hard convolution or Fourier stuff was to grasp for your weak mind. No thought whatsoever in practice. An algorithm some oldfag designed long ago does it all. Telecomm is not far behind. But Control theory IS engineering.

It triggers me so hard when you faggots talk about majors.

Literally all you faggots have to base you facts around is gossip from freshmen 2 semesters from dropping out and the literal names of the majors. How do you actually talk shit about something you've never majored in?

There is no easy major unless your school is easy. Professors will change the difficulty of courses based on the average performance. If you did calculus 3 and it felt like a breeze, it probably means your school attracts retards and you're just competing against retards. No scientific field is small enough for a dumbass undergrad to feel like his ''intellect'' is being held back, profs can fuck your shit up if they really want to.

General EE mostly covers how to use specific software, much like ME would cover CAD. However, EE majors rarely write their own software as they can get by with minor knowledge of how the software works "under the hood." Unlike EE, some ME majors make their own software and build robots, cars, complex thermal and electrical systems like nuclear reactors, etc. EE is definitely a brainless STEM major in comparison to ME.

>> No.9319121

CATIA, Autodesk, SolidWorks, Mastercam, and LabVIEW are just a few examples of software developed by ME innovators or their direct founders. Clearly, you've never looked up any robotics programs, as LabVIEW is a major component in the dynamics and systems controls of machines. Clearly not "basic circuits."

What of EE? You can focus on one thing, say computer engineering, then you have your software development. But then they lack expertise in everything else. EE is too focused. ME is broad.

You seem to be confused. I never said that ME majors could develop software themselves, but that they do innovate and delve into software development. Certainly software and computer engineers are suited for that, but they don't tend to understand anything else but the programming. ME majors have to have a broad understanding and skill set to combine the physics and mechanics of systems with programming to design such systems. Anyone can just take a few remedial programming courses to be a computer engineering, or a few software architecture classes to be a developer. It's not that hard at all.

While I will agree sociology is scientific field, it's far down the ladder in purity of applied science than you lead it to suggest. EE can't develop most useful softwares that make engineering on the whole useful to society. You can have a top tier software developer, but without the input from others disciplines like ME, BME, CE, or others, they can't do much else.

Are you saying that CE, CS, and programming are not subsets or minor branches of EE? I suppose then I'm wrong. EE is more useless than I thought. As an aside, I do often work with source code on linux clusters to make radiation transport programs. I grantee you, it would probably take a programmer or developer a lot longer to learn the physics to understand what they are doing than it did for me to learn any human-readable programming language.

Yes, to understand programming languages and the core concepts of programming is not a hard task. What is actually hard is to understand the concepts/fields of CS required in the development of certain pieces of software, and the programming process itself (actually, here's where most of the hardness of programming comes from).

I mean: a ME can understand the basic idea of programming and be able to read code, but in no way that person would be able to understand the whole architecture of a complex piece of software, nor how a kernel/compiler/virtual machine/machine learning system/3D design software/etc works in a detailed manner, because these are very deep and hard CS fields that, almost all of them, requires hard maths as well.

As another example, think in a physics engine for a videogame. Yes, that ME person may know a lot of physics and maths, but (likely) nothing of complex low-level software engineering. Those pieces of software tends to be pretty complex in terms of programming and the low-level knowledge required is pretty high, to the point that you'll need far more than just a few classes of software architecture.

The same rules applies to computer engineers, that knows a lot of maths and physics, trying to understand how something of the "ME world" works.

To an extent, I agree. I have limited experience using machine learning and editing/compiling source code for my own uses, but then again it's for a specific use. If you know what MCNP is, it's something along those lines.

This is anecdotal, I know, but I work in a specific group where most of our work is written and compiled by nuclear engineers and physicists. Most definitely my knowledge in programming, system architecture, and software implementation is limited to my area of specialization, but I learned most of it through my ME program. Mathematics wise, the only additional math I had to learn outside ME to do this was logic. It's very likely in a different field and institution that this might not be true, but for me I was able to get by without having to take any CE, CS, or other advanced math classes.
