The thing is that in middle school and highschool being remotely interested in science or math made you a tryhard cause people think that if you don't like those subjects you are a retatrd and want to cope with the fact that some guy gets straight As in a math class without studying. Because everyone is an insecure little shit with more dick that brains, they will probably shake it off. So either you need to be autistic a.k.a. weird to be into that shit so you don't care, or literally, don't give 2 shits about what other people think which is also rare. The problem with the former, is that they become so self absorbed into their "smarts" that they justify everything with that everyone who doesn't like him is because they are stupid, while they may just have terrible social skills. Maybe you will never get as much pussy as an NFL player, but if you don't develop a shitty personality an can manage to talk to women, you will probably find some.

They're attracted to intellegence but more of a general intellegence. As you said being smart at this one specific thing or having a high IQ isn't really attractive. But the idea of you being intelligent without seeming condescending or weird can be really attractive.
