Anyone know who I can get in contact with to get a professional opinion?

It's the one on the right, by the way.

I'm not a geologist, but from what I can see, it could very well be one.

Don't know

I'd really love to get in contact with a meteorologist, however I'm not really sure what to look for.

Rub it on a piece of porcelain and see if it leaves a coloured mark.

It will most likely leave a red or grey-black mark indicating that it is hematite or magnetite respectively (both of which are common terrestrial iron ores).

I should add: Use unglazed porcelain (The bottom rim of a mug works in a pinch) and clean the surface you are testing first, it doesn't work otherwise.
