Oxford is much more chilled and friendly, you actually get to meet interesting people doing different stuff

At Imperial pretty much everyone was the same no matter what they studied.
London is a shithole and anyone who doesnt get tired of it after a year has serious mental issues.

I went to undergrad at FSU (>>9185004)

Undergrad does not matter. All universities are essentially the same in what they offer academically just in a different colored bow. The undergrad chemistry degree between FSU and UF for instance, you took the same classes and labs, FSUs inorganic lab was mandatory while UFs was optional but you had to take an extra biochem course. You are given the necessary resources to succeed in a given field to a standard set by academics in said field. Now when you are looking to go to grad, med, or law school then university and professor choice truly matters. Now mind you, come undergrads offer majors other simply dont so do your research on that.

I grew up in Orlando. I went to FSU because virtually no one from highschool was going there and I wanted to meet new people and not be tempted to just stick with what I know. It was also far enough from home to be able to visit but not too easily but was also in state.

I wanted to go to Imperial, it was my #1 choice for that reason. From what I understood, everyone was either autistic or Asian - sounded comfy. Went for an interview in November 2015 for Maths&Compsci and fucked it up badly, I was the first person in my year at school to get an interview and I didn't prepare at all. Probably my biggest regret in life. Also applied to Oxford the same year, was my #2 but didn't get in because they almost exclusively accept foreigners for that course and only about 20 at that, although I was good enough to go for interview.

Reapplied this past year for pure Compsci, didn't even get an interview this time at Imperial, did well enough on the MAT to interview at Oxford again - rejected again though. Also rejected from UCL my #3 so I've had to settle for KCL (my #4).

fuck my life

Anyway I'm going to ace compsci at king's and then go on to do law in murica.

I then left and applied to FSU because FSU's financial math phd program is amazing and i didn't like chicago
the moral being: go to whichever school offers you the most money and just focus on studying your ass off, doing internships, and doing REUs
make your decision on where to do to grad school based on the strength of the program in your particular discipline (not school ranking, which is worthless) and based on whether there are any professors whose research you want to contribute to

>Yes it's a proven fact that they favour foreign students

This doesn't make sense on so many levels.
If they got more money why don't they take in only foreign students.
Also EU students pay the same tuition fees so that means most people should be non-EU.

Besides, when I was doing my MSc a large majority was UK/EU.

As additional proof, see the graduate admission statistics for 2015-2016:
https://www.ox.ac.uk/sites/files/oxford/OU_GAO_Statistics_2015-6.pdf

Also the undergradiate admission statistics:
https://www.ox.ac.uk/about/facts-and-figures/admissions-statistics/undergraduate?wssl=1
https://public.tableau.com/views/UoO_UG_Admissions2/AcceptanceRate?%3Aembed=y&%3Adisplay_count=yes&%3AshowTabs=y&%3AshowVizHome=no

Pic related are table extracts from statistics, both clearly show that non-EU students
have lower acceptance rate than EU/UK ones.
Therefore I think the foreign preference myth is bust.

I second the talking to anyone point.

Everyone else in Uni is trying to make their own friends. If you don't have the 'tism, and are a slightly functioning member of society, it should be possible to strike a conversation with anyone in your class/tutorials/labs (even easier if you have a lab partner (easier still if you're in dorms)). Just keep in mind that its the real world where shitposting and talking in cryptic references only other people who visit the same subsection of an anime forum as you get won't really work. "Normie talk" should be your foundation, onto which your personality should build on.

From there just start conversations with whoever sits next to you in a class with some mundane, but normie, remark: "How do you like the professor so far?"/"That exam was such a shitshow"/"This lab is so boring" etc. The conversation would then start from there with the other person giving their own opinion, from which you could build your reply on (ie. having a conversation). You're not going to *click* with everyone you talk to, but you might find some people with the same mental retardation as yourself and become friends.

What about the people you don't *click* with? Worst case scenario is that you made a couple of acquaintances you could compare hw/labs/results with or even chill/study with between classes.

You might get more lucky than me. My main problem was that the field is too small and I am a non-EU.

This means that prosthetic companies such as Ossur or Ottobockeasily get steady influx of EU employees,
and there is no need for them to spend money on visas for oversees ones. I know this because it is what I was told so, but
as always take it with a pich of salt.

And since the lost limb market isnt exactly booming and people get by with basic prosthetics there
doesnt seem to be much advancement in industry.

My best advice would be to stay in academia and get a PhD, then maybe shoot for Neuralink or something
but as I said, I kinda switched to CS so might not be the best reference.

A few of you are in grad school, and I was wondering what kind of scores you got on the GRE and if I should retake it or not.

I got a 320, 160 verbal and 160 quant, and I want to apply for masters of engineering programs but I know my quant a little on the low side. Some of the programs I am applying for I am just barely above the minimum they consider. What are admissions like for grad programs? I am not applying to top 10 programs or anything, the programs I want to get into are all second tier schools but I'm worried I might not even get into those. Anyone have advice?
