Am I still the same as 15 years ago or am I a mere copy of this guy?

There's no such thing as "15 years ago", dude. You've been in this world like couple of minutes. All your memories are just stuff that this world has generated, just like the room you're in and this message you're reading.

Don't worry though, soon you'll find yourself in a whole different world, and believe that you've lived there for 30 years as a black female farmer.

What does "growing as a person" mean, if not changing from who you are into someone else?

Every day you wake up as a copy of yourself. Whenever you go to sleep your stream of consciousness is stopped for a few hours before REM. After that you wake up as someone with the same memories. If someone had killed you in your sleep then uploaded your conciousness to a computer you wouldn't even know.

every time you go to bed your consciousness ceases.

You are completely new to this world, with the memories of the guy who went to sleep in the bed you woke up in.

>or am I a mere copy of this guy?

The cells in your body die and get replaced. Skin cells live about two or three weeks while brain cells typically last an entire lifetime.

Your body is a copy but your brain is the same. You are still you.

t. hasn't experienced ego death yet
The right answer is thinking "I'm me" or "I'm not me" are both wrongheaded because the self concept itself never mapped to an actual thing of substance in physical reality. It's just a story, m8.

'You' don't actually exist, it's just a narrative that makes humans better at living.
In the end, 'you' are a machine made by evolution to reproduce your genes.

Think about this a bit more. It doesn't only apply to sleep, but to every single moment of your life.

Every second, you are a new guy inheriting the memories of the past. That is the extent to which your consciousness is "continuous". Other than in the present, there is no You.

if you one second from now knows everything about present you, whats to say 15 years ago you isn't the same as 15 years - 1 second ago you? and so on.

You're a completely new person twice over. In the course of seven years every cell in your body will have been replaced.

this is the correct answer. every morning you basically have an on-switch that boots 'you' up, but it's still you, same circuits, same parts.
