If it's sin(x), I'd say "Sine X",
but if it's f(x), I'd say "F of X", mostly because it's shorthand for "F is a function of X".

If it's f^2(x), I'd say "F of F of X",
and if it's f(g(x)), I'd say "F of G of X".

The function is f, f(x) represents the function evaluated at a point x in the domain. depending on the target space f(x) very well could be a function, but if you're just talking about real valued functions of a real variable, then f(x) is just a number.

>> No.8659896

>>8659870
Notation is a mess in general. Squaring the result should be written as (sin(x))^2 or better as pow(sin(x),2), while repeated application of f(x) onto itself should be written as f^2(x) or better with some dedicated operator like sigma or pi.

Why the heck do we write the square first explicit function kids learn in school, that is sin(x) this way anyway? Probably some historical reason, proving once again that humanists are retarded

>> No.8659899

>>8659894
So you're saying f(x)could be a function in the sense that for every x it becomes a possibly different function? And evaluing it for a given input would be written as (f(x))(y), effectively turning it into a function of multiple variables g: A,B -> C?
