There is absolutely no point to math proofs

Prove it mathematically.

>> No.8419157

How do you figure? Proving that a rule is true in every case is pretty valuable, it allows you just use it without worrying whether it will apply to the specific problem at hand as long as it's within the parameters of the proof.

If there is no mathematical proof, it doesn't exist.

Beauty.

Mathematics is not only a science, it is also an art.

Mathematics is not only a science, it is also an art. In addition, math is the foundation of all sciences (except biology but that's another subject) so we must be sure of what we do.

where there is sureness there is no math, therefore math is a tool to prove some past observation

Math is considered a science only within the mental framework of the cult of /sci/entism, an axiom-based civil religion.

Math is beautiful, and it is art. But it is definitely not a science.

Mathematics is the language with which we express our understanding of nature. Proofs ensure that this understanding is self-consistent.

yes there is, to prove whether a mathematical claim is bullshit or not

mathematics can be used to model biology, sure, but it can also be used to model the fluid dynamics of underwater basket weaving. so what?

mathematical biology is practically worthless, whereas physics literally IS applied mathematics, it isn't just a model.

Many people think that proof is meant to establish truth. But really, it's more about consistency. If you prove something from the ZFC axioms then you know it's consistent with everything we know already, assuming there isn't something disastrously wrong (i.e. ZFC is inconsistent). This is important because our intuitions about what is and is not consistent are often wrong.

>> No.8419951

>>8419948
And the way you can see this is that, if something is independent of the axioms (whether the "fundamental" ones like ZFC or not), it is often then added as an additional axiom. And the completeness theorems tell us that every consistent set of axioms refer to something "real." If they don't you're just mindlessly moving symbols around.

The difference between art and science is that for the case of art, all creations are unique. This means that if da Vinci had died at an early age and never painted any of his works we wouldn't be able to ever see the art pieces we see today that are made by da Vinci.

When it comes to science, if Einstein had died at an early age, there would be another person to eventually figure out relativity. If Nikola Tesla had never been born there would still be someone who worked on electronics to figure things out.

All the same goes for music, which is also unique and dependant on the person. Had Mozart died at an early age, we would've missed some great musical experiences, which would've never been played otherwise.

Thus I can kind of disagree with your point on math being an art.
