her claim was that someone else would of described universal gravitation if it wasn't for Newton....

it's similar to the general argument that Humanities geniuses produce unique works that can't be replicated while science will generally advance no matter who is behind the work

is this accurate

>> No.8405465

edit: yes i know that painting was done by Raphel and no Da Vinci, but still does her point stand?

That sounds retarded. Someone else would've painted a picture which would then be concidered the most beautiful. Maybe it exsists already but taste is purely subjective.

To be fair da vinci lived long before newton.

Yes, i agree with her claim, since someone was certainly bound to figure it out soon enough.

But to make a complete point or argument you need a warrant. That links the claim to the defined impact of Da Vinci being the smarter person.

Unless she fleshed it out, she made no claims about any comparative knowledge or contributions between Da Vinci and Newton, thus she is not even making an argument. Sure claims are great, but not an point do they make.

When's the last time art fed someone who wasn't an art teacher?

it feeds your soul you uncultured schmuck

your entire life exists because of culture. this autistic world without art which you imagine is basically the soviet union. depressing as fuck.

Sure, but it was Da Vinci vs Newton and I imagine most people haven't seen a Da Vinci this year but most people have felt the work of Newton.

most people don't feel the foundations of their buildings that doesn't mean they aren't important

either way OPs entire premise is dumb it's like batman vs superman who really gives a fuck

>>8405542
The way we feel Newton is like we feel the foundations of a building, I don't know if we feel Da Vinci at all.
Actually, I'd wager that a philosophical thought like this has been more important than the art of Da Vinci.

the value of is art is completely subjective, but he made numerous contributions to medical science with is work with human anatomy that people certainly feel today

thats bullshit
by this logic i can go pick up the violin, play a bunch of horrible sounding notes since i dont know how to play, and if everyone thinks its great somehow im smarter than Da Vinci? Art is subjective, and creativity != intelligence. Any human can produce unique works.
Also what do you mean it cant be replicated? Yes it can.

I would say it's pointless to compare their geniuses because they operated in two separate worlds and any attempt is just dick measuring between academic fields.

I don't get why Da Vinci is so praised. I look at his wikipedia page and I see he made some paintings that are ok (they don't do anything fo me, really), had a few ideas for inventions that he never accomplished, and drew some anatomy in detail. He never really invented anything great or did anything great.

I'm thinking he was a meme "genius" of his time that was mostly loved for his personality.

>> No.8406405

Obviously Da Vinci was the greater genius. That guy learned all his skills pretty much trough observation only. He was innovative, creative and truly persistent in seeking out more knowledge.

Here are his notes http://sacred-texts.com/aor/dv/index.htm

I think the most impressive thing about Da Vinci is that he was a multi genius, highly skilled in all kinds of sciences and arts. He was even socially really skilled and always ready for a good conversation.

Newton was faggot, and stole his work from Leibniz, so yes, DaVinci was much more important than numaleton
