What will compsci majors do in a few years when Quantum Computing becomes a thing in public&private industry? Can all of them really into QM?

Literally all it can do is *maybe* increase the efficiency of simulated annealing, which is itself an extremely narrow subset of machine learning.

That is the D-Wave adiabatic quantum computer. Silicon or superconducting universal machines are much more diverse in the set of problems they can solve (and they do already exist, just on scales entirely useless for actual applications).

No, what makes quantum computing cool is the ability to simulate quantum systems at reasonable speeds. This means we can actually solve quantum many body problems without waiting months. IE we can simulate atoms and shit.

You know what like all the supercomputers in the world simulate? Atoms and shit.

You know what helps drug companies find new drugs? Simulating atoms and shit. With quantum computers we could find ALL THE DRUGS man. Fucking all them. We're talking a new drug everyday man.

Fuck man. We could even find out if like unstable elements that only exist for two seconds can act like drugs. ALL THE DRUGS MAN, ALL OF THEM

Algorithmic complexity will still be a thing, so there will still be jobs for compsci

have universal quantum computers actually been made?

.... are you underage b&? How have you never read xkcd? I'm not saying you have to like it, I'm just confused as to how someone who isn't very young or a super normie has never checked it out. Maybe you're not from the US?

Post quantum cryptography is an active field

>>8383280
That's just D-Wave, which is a very specialised machine

I think the one IBM has is supposed to be, it's only 5 qubits though. Google might have one with 11?
