A MICS from 2010 where less than 5% of people think a husband is justified in hitting his wife?

You do realize STEM degrees aren't even accredited in the surveyed countries, right?

Second, even if they were the academic centers of the world, 5% is an incredibly small minority of those societies and it would be dubious to use as evidence for an overall sexist society.

>>8228732

Different as in explicitly encouraged to peruse degrees in STEM? I doubt they have a problem with that.

Or did you mean the fictitious discouragement from pursuing degrees in STEM? Even if this were the case, if a woman wanted a STEM degree what exactly is preventing it? Will someone give her a weird look or something, and this is unbearable?

Or were you saying that women are brainwashed into disliking STEM? What specific mechanisms are doing so?

also I never claimed the overall society was sexist. I posted statistics done in my country a couple of years ago. I just pointed out that ex soviet eastern europe women are retarded and don't want to get into stem degrees, but when they do it's to get into the field of education. they also think it's okay to get beaten for burning food.
I honestly don't think men are the problem if women feel inferior nowadays.
I'm studying EE and have no problems with my male professors or colleagues whatsoever.

>> No.8228800

>>8228780
yeah, but the post you replied to had no mention of sexism.

living in an ex-communist third world country has it's effects on moral values. people in general don't see a bright future when you're surrounded with shitty politics and economy. women from the previous generation of STEM degrees migrated or are jobless (not because they suck, but due to the political situations or lack of funding towards STEM). so they educated the younger women that an easy way out is through modeling, acting, porn or tennis (definitely not engineering). if you've ever been to eastern europe, you've seen how the women look and looks are very important here.

as a woman in STEM, I got a lot of judgement from other women (nonSTEM) saying that I'm pretentious for wanting to be an EE and for thinking I'm better then them. I honestly don't care what you do and I don't think I'm any better, but a lot of times people want to shame me for not picking a more effeminate major (such as art, linguistics, education). if it's a woman in STEM, they try to compete with looks and grades and they aren't very supportive of eachother.

hope that helps to clarify. we can discuss this as much as you'd like.

Has the Soviet technocratic legacy gone entirely to shit in just 25 years? I still remember the early 2000's, when the Soviet-era academic traditions and high regard for technical occupations in the public consciousness were cited as the reason why a lot of the leading Russian universities would become driving forces of groundbreaking technological research. Yes. Research is barely funded at all. PhD student stipend is ~$50/month, professors get $700-1000/month. Almost anyone good enough to get a job in the US or Europe will leave Russia, and they've been doing it for the last 25 years. Undergraduate STEM education in our top 5-10 universities is still decent though.

Your wifi signal has to pass through a wall of reinforced concrete, use an ethernet cable, get a second wifi antenna for your room or deal with it.
> Lol what can you even do with that? Are you going to work in a call center and try to sell people mobile contracts or something?
I could be the person determining where to put the antennae so you get good reception, I could design new antennae, I could work on the next video / audio codecs so you can stream your porn faster and use less of your data volume while having higher quality images of cocks on your screen, I could help develop new networking standards / transmission standards so you can transfer more data more reliably and faster.
> Are you going to work for the BND [intelligence service]?
It's an option but unlikely.
> So can you listen in on people's telephone conversations without them noticing?
Hahaha no, that would be completely impossible and it's also illegal to build an IMSI catcher in order to pretend being a BTS so your phone connects to my device that I can use to listen in on your conversation with no way for you to detect that I'm listening in on your phone call other than looking at your bill, if you still pay per minute / per call...

Mechanical Engineering is called by a term here, that literally translates to "machine building".
Every time I tell them that I'm studying "machine building", they think that I'm basically playing with legos by assembling ikea style machine sets.

Jesus that pissed me off. What's more it was a person responsible for careers guidance at my old highschool. The fucker was in charge of telling kids their options for uni, and didn't know what one of the most popular types of engineering was.

He then asked if I was doing an apprenticeship, or studying at TAFE. I tried to explain what an engineer was; he started to talk in a condescending tone asking me if I came home with grease on my fingers or not.

Everyone has at least some exposure to math, chemistry and physics from high/primary school so they think have an idea of what it is about.

Most people are completely ignorant of academic disciplines and related professions even if they attend university to get their bachelors in history of basketweaving.

It's not that normies don't know what engineers do. it's that they don't know what anyone does. Except medicine because they watch Grey's Anatomy.

Yes, but part of it is my secondary degree in Economics.
I mostly see value transfers, not value creation. Given the huge percentages of failed start-up, I am beginning to suspect that the need for new small business is not to create jobs as the job life is averaged less then 5 years and pays ~$30,00 a year, but that it is a secondary money pump as huge amounts of loans are pumped to start-ups then forgotten in bankruptcy acting as a largely unregulated quantitative easing program that is massive, yet so atomized that it doesn't look like anything interesting. Such an operation seems unstable from every manner I look at it, as the few success stories don't even start to offset the value loss. It makes digging and filling holes look good, at least then you have data point to see how wrong things are.
